Among the actual African and Caribbean / West Indian immigrants to the USA, you will find the same phenomenon actually. Just some historical thoughts:
1. British Colonialism, while flawed in so many ways, was not "Jim Crow" in the USA sense, although certainly it was still discriminatory.
2. British Caribbean slavery ended in relatively peaceful gradual emancipation, rather than a civil war.
3. The ones in the UK, like the actual African and Caribbean / West Indian immigrants to the USA, are bona fide immigrants, although after the decades are you are starting to see 2nd, 3rd, nth generations.
