Why do black people in America behave so much differently than other minorities? Do they face more discrimination as a result?

They stand out so much more to white people than with any other group.

Just the way they talk, dress and act.

But they’ve been here for longer than any other minority group.

But for some reason they seem to have the hardest time fitting in to society.

Immigrants of any racial group definitely stand out in America when they first arrive.

But these people have been here for generations. And the children of immigrants usually end up developing ways to connect with the rest of society around them.

I can speak from experience on that point. Growing up I remember feeling comfortable around the Indian (🇮🇳) kids in school, but I always felt awkward whenever I ended up meeting their parents.

However its as if black people have developed their own culture independent from white people, which almost has the adverse effect of alienating them from the rest of society.

That is until they decide to “act white” which usually seems to happen amongst the ones who live in mostly white areas.

Then again for much of America’s history black people were forced to develop free of outside involvement and white influence. They had to learn to be self reliant in order to survive.

While I understand that for much of America’s history black people were forced to develop seperately culturally, I’m still surprised by how little they’ve integrated with the rest of society and how much remains unchanged.

Its as if immigrant groups of all races have an easier time connecting with the rest of society than do native born black citizens.

One Jamaican black guy at my Dad’s work said that he had to learn how to play by “The white man’s game” until someone was willing to hire him.

As a matter of fact, of the black people at my High school, I always felt awkward around the ones that came from nearby cities, whereas the ones who descended from immigrant families generally seemed to have enough in common with me.
