Why do people get so offended when you say defund the police?

All it means is to reallocate the polices money and resources to other agencies so it can be put to better use. A lot of mentally ill people die to the police and the cops usually aren't trained to deal with mental health situations. Why not use the money to get someone who is trained to deal with it to come on the scene instead of using it for more guns and bombs?

1. The police don't really use bombs, do they? You are exaggerating to try to make your point. Your tactic failed.

2. When somebody breaks into your house in the middle of the night, you can call for a social worker to come and talk to the poor souls who have been forced to break in, but I want to call someone who can come either arrest them or just shoot them on the spot. I'd really feel much safer that way.

3. When your mother gets raped and murdered because the social worker didn't get to the scene quick enough, you'll be rethinking this silliness.

4. In the meanwhile, if you want to take the police away, why do you also want to take away my guns? If you want to live that way, okay, but every city that has done this nonsense has seen a sharp increase in violent crimes.

They don't use bombs but they buy tanks and bombs when they don't need them.

You are an expert on police tactics? Hw much training and experience do you have on this subject? What are your credentials? Or is this just your uneducated personal opinion?

Because they understand cause and effect. Poluce ARE trained to deal with crisi situations; calling to defund them is saying the dozen or so people unjustly killed by police are worth more than the tens of thousands who'd be killed without the police. "Defund" is not "reform".

It's the equivalent of having a screen door that won't say closed saying "burn the house down".

Because it's a stupid slogan that sounds like you want to get rid of police so you can commit more crime. If police are bogged down with "non police" tasks then support them by campaigning to free them up so they can do proper police work like arresting criminals. I'm sure that's why most of them joined.

Cuting the police budget puts the whole population at risk. Manpower is short as it is. The overtime budget is usually the first to go and then any specialized units that fight specific crimes like drug trafficking or gang activity. When you call the police there used to be an expectation that they would respond quickly. Not anymore.

Mostly because we get on board with more training which would require more funding and better salaries but then someone in the back says “defund the police entirely actually.” And everyone leaves thinking wtf how are we gonna train better police officers after we defund them

Because "defund" doesn't mean "relocate". Seattle, Portland, Chicago, NYC, among many other cities, didn't relocate money, they literally cut the budget.
