Supreme Court overturns certain gun restrictions, assault weapons ban, etc. Your thoughts?

I think it is a good thing, as none of those restrictions do anything to make anyone safer. They have a mental effect of doing so, but not a realistic one but only certain people.

Not when the southern border, has such high amount of illegal guns coming through each day... makes no sense to make legal owners be restricted but one can buy an illegal gun that easily.

Secure the border and prevent illegal trafficking of any kind, guns, drugs, people and then we can talk about gun restrictions and being effective.

In the mean time they need to start focusing on the mental issue and why people feel the need to go shot someone and address the problem there. The tool isn't the problem, as if you remove that tool they'll find another way to harm others... ever heard of people plowing their cars into large crowds, that will become far more common.

I haven’t read the SCOTUS decision yet. I’m a gun owner and usually support gun owner rights with reasonable regulation, but I’m starting to think the Supreme Court has become another political arm of government that needs to be reigned in.

As far as the bans on assault weapons by some states, they've just asked the lower courts in those states to review those laws, the only law they overturned is the conceal and carry law of NY.

It is interesting how some people internet the freedom to protect yourself using firearms with “the right to kill each other and themselves.”

I personally feel bad for where these people grew up, not experiencing certain freedoms and rights that, in my humble opinion, they should undoubtedly have.

The UK where we have changed our bill of rights which allows people to have fire arms to no longer be able to possess them without very strict legal restrictions. It only took 1 mass shooting here (Dunblane) for handguns to be stopped. Now its generally only people who hunt and farmers with guns. Having one means regular checks by the police to ensure it is locked away in your house in a secure box and only you know and have access to the key, not doing this can result in years in prison, even some one touching your gun without a gun license can be an instant 5 years in prison, thats how serious guns are treated here because they are a very very serious weapon which has only 1 use.

My step dad was in the armed forces for decades and has a gun license and a gun, hence why i know this, once when drunk down the pub he got into an argument with a guy and said if he saw him again he would kill him... i was living at the house at the time and not long after they returned home there was a knock at the door, i opened the door to 1/2 dozen fire arm officers who had come to take him and his gun away for questioning, he was not allowed his gun back until he could prove that he was of a sound mental state and meant no harm (he got it back a few months later). The guy had gone to the police and as he had a gun they took his drunken remark very seriously

I have used shotguns and rifles on ranges over the years and i dont see what all the fuss is about. I can't say i ever met any one who would say they wish they had the right to own a gun, at least not any one who you wouldn't trust with sharp objects! Most people here do not feel in danger for their lives to such an extent they need extreme force to project themselves, its a safer country i guess, most police do not have fire arms either as they simply do not need them. Its a completely different reality to the US and i personally feel bad for those people who feel constantly in the need to make them selves feel safe, the country must be a horrible place to live

The dumb ass logic here is that murders, rapes, violent crime doesn't go down as a result. So, what we must ask again and again and again is, what the fuck is your point?

@schittywok that is incorrect. Take murders in our largest city London, now London is a little larger than new York in population and had 133 murders vs 450 in 2021. Please provide examples of your counter argument, we also don't have regular mass murders especially in schools. Last school shooting here was 26 years ago. i look forward to your counter points

@schittywok and he wasn't raided, the police calmly came in and lined up, he was taken in for questioning and released a few hours later. They were investigating and proventing a potential murder, I guess it's normal to just shoot people and ask questions later where your from but they prefer to sort things out before escalation here

@schittywok oh and it's also a crime to intimidate when in possession or having access to a fire arm, hence also the police response. We take guns seriously. Other crimes that are not as effective with guns are not likely to be as varied as murder, e. g. rape and burglary, I not checked the stats because I feel my first response sums up where this conversation is going, you need to live here to understand living without fear of others

I don't need to live there, I've told many people of what it's like to live in Trump Country. It's fantastic, we own guns. No one fucks with us. No alarm system. No cameras. Half the doors are unlocked only because we are so confident we forget to lock doors, plus we leave vehicles unlocked with the keys sitting in them. Want to visit a Dem ran shit hole? Best have your concealed carry. No asshole will ever carjack me or try to, if they do? They'll get a bullet in their noggin faster than you can say anything.
