I don't think DeSantis would be his VP. Generally a president does not get paired with a VP who is in lock-step with the president's policies or background. In this respect, DeSantis fits well because of his background as a lawyer/JAG Officer, and it's obvious that he'd be getting groomed for 2028, but he largely has the exact same voter base of America-first, state autonomy voters; it would probably be better for Trump to run with someone who represents another chunk of the Republican party, like Ted Cruz or Rand Paul (lawyer bulldogs with Senate backgrounds), or Alan West or Mike Pompeo (military/intelligence backgrounds). Flipping Florida from a battleground to a pretty decisively red state that has largely stolen the perceptive title of being the conservative example away from Texas is also a huge win for, and largely because of Ron DeSantis, so removing him from Florida politics so soon could be disastrous. Overall, I'd love for him to be on the ticket, but not as Trump's wingman.

He may be running, but if he's match up against Florida's Gov. DeSantis, Trump will not be the Republican party's nominee. DeSantis is a genuine Republican while Trump is... well, no one is really sure what he'd do in a second term. If Trump decides to run as a third-party candidate, it will split the vote and hand the election to Sleepy Joe, or whoever the Democratic candidate is. This is what happened back in 1992 with Bush and Perot, which gave the election to Slick Willy.

For those unfamiliar with the American political system (which is unique), simply winning the most votes in primary elections does not mean that candidate will be his/her party's choice in the Presidential election. Each political party holds a convention where delegates from each state, territory and district will vote in their own election. The candidate winning the most votes in the convention the becomes that party's candidate for President.

A weird system? Sure, but this is America, and we've always done it this way.

Let’s not forget that Drumpf alienated a fair lot of republicans with his nonsense. And Biden is making himself, and Kamala by extension, extremely beatable. So the republicans might not select Drumpf. If that’s the case, he’d have to run independent. It would be interesting if we could finally elect an independent in the US. I’d be all for it if it meant long term changes to how we as a nation elect public servants. I refuse to vote democripp or rebloodlican ever again. The two-party system is a huge part of what’s wrong with this country.
