Because like 95% of world is straight and I live being hetero and totally secure about it and not having to seek validation for my life style from other people. All these answers are memes, but I'l give you a real one. Statistically, other than gay men, straight men and women have much higher life satisfaction on average than lesbians or bisexuals in women-women relationships. So, that's one reason.

On another level, a family unit which includes biologically reared children has been and remains to be, a pillar of society. Children of single parents are more than 3x as likely to be a criminal later in life on average. This is linked to a lack of role models for certain gender roles. There's much psychological literature as to why a masculine and feminine figure is required in the raising of a child.

So, in terms of continuation of society, statistically you need straight relationships or straight-emulating relationships.

Also, statisically, most people are straight. This is historically true and remains to be the case. More people are born straight than not.

Nothing‘s great about it. Conservatism basically (not just in the political sense). Some people think that everything should stay like it was, even bad things, and even if there‘s no reason for it at all. In medieval times it was frowned upon for religious reasons and conservatism has conserved homophobia till this day. Why? „Cause it has always been like that“ that‘s why. Cause apparently societal progress is a bad thing?
