Even for the same place it’s complicated. You can leave a rental at the end of the lease term. Selling property is more complex and can be expensive. Over the long term owning is often advantageous but it’s rare that you can buy a property for the same amount as you would pay to rent it.

You should always choose Own... I have rental property which is self-sustaining and income producing in Thailand because i resided there short-term and bought. The property can be rented and pay for itself at a minimum. Credit score increases etc NEVER RENT if you can buy. I bought a dump with needles on groundand gun shots in day first house. I was in it three years and fixed it up. 1300.00 month now with an original 872.00 payment. It will be paid off in 1.8 years.
NO ONE can make money pissing it away in Rent at any time. ALWAYS buy and rent if need be !!!

It's generally better to have a mortgage than to pay rent. A big exception is if you know you won't be somewhere very long. It used to be that the rule of thumb was you needed to stay in a house for around five years to make a capital gain, and that is still a good benchmark because there are a lot of expenses associated with readying a property for sale, moving and getting into a new place.

That would much rather pay a mortgage any day, if you're paying rent you're paying someone else's mortgage. After you've rented you own nothing. If you pay the mortgage on a home or condo it's yours to keep forever

If you can swing it, buy is better than rent. Your real estate typically grows in value, and that value is yours, not the landlord's. You can also claim part of the mortgage payment as a deduction on your income taxes, which you can't do if you rent.

Mortgage as it is tax deductible and you are Asset building. Go with ownership. Don't know where you find that anymore. They are mostly 1500.-2500. month where I am.

Well the house I bought for 150k in 2002 that I paid mortgage 450 twice a month sold for close to 700k. My other house purchased for 250k is now worth over a million.

    Mortgage.

With rent you are someone else's investment. In a Mortgage you are investing in yourself.

Mortgage. It can be deducted on federal tax return and if you pay a mortgage, eventually you will own the property.

Mortgage is investing. Renting is just…landlord pickpocketing you.
