So we just saw Trump claim that the FBI took his passports. The FBI (and media) called him a liar. Which caused the leftists on social media to crow that Trump is a liar. Now they're reporting that the DOJ is returning the passports to Trump that he supposedly lied about.

If that doesn't sum up the last 6 years about Trump, I don't know what does.

Let me summarize, guy was never in the building, they raided his house while not showing the warrant or the supposed picture which was the supposed evidence.

Arrest, you do because it requires the person arrested to be present. Search, only if asked at the time. The person whose property is being searched can object at the time only if present. Then the warrant can ensure that the LEOs can actually search it despite objections. Once a search has been executed thrn the only objection is if it can be used in a criminal trial. If no criminal charges are brought the legality of it is moot since they got what they wanted.

The person's lawyer is legally a proxy for the person.

There's no permission for arrest, so I don't get why that's relevant.

@anylolone you have to do so for any information gathered to be used in legal proceedings. Yet if you enter a residence and nobody stops you, you don't need to show them a warrant.

@Twalli Weird, nobody was home to stop them, except the workers who quickly called the lawyers and trump, and the lawyers came to stop them and ask for the warrant.

And you still have the serve the warrant, even if you just leave in the mailbox, but if proxies are there, you serve the warrant before you continue the search.

@anylolone true. Point is, ip to. the point someone is there to protest the entrance, the warrant doesn't need to be shown.
Furthermore, it doesn't really matter now whether or not what they did was legal. They got what they wanted to get. The only issue in which legality may be called into question is if there are criminal proceedings. I don't see them being brought at this time, so the point is moot.
