If you mean crime involving gun violence, then it's hard to say, really.
On the one hand, it is true that gun violence occurs LESS often in areas known to have armed security and MORE often in areas that are "gun-free," like schools, churches, and most public establishments. Criminals are more willing to shoot people because they're betting on the likelihood that their victim is unarmed and/or unwilling to retaliate. And often times, the odds are in their favor.
So in theory, if more people were armed, criminals would be less inclined to take the risk. After all, it often takes just ONE shot to scare them off, even if they're armed with scary-looking "assault rifles" and even if they outnumber you. That's the power guns have.
On the other hand, if we did live in a hypothetical world where every single law abiding citizen was trained and armed with a firearm, it can be argued that criminals would simply find a way to adapt in this new environment and continue their criminal behavior... because as we all know, criminals are driven by desperation.
So, again... hard to say for sure.
No..
There is never going to be away to get rid of all the guns in the USA. We can't even keep illegals out or illegal drugs or guns. People can make their own.
We know the war on drugs has worked so well, imagine the war on guns... it will be just as effective. Only now law abiding citizens, would have to wait an hour or two for a police response when someone with a gun is trying to break into my home to rape me.
Exactly. I was home recovering from surgery last year and the cops come to my back door. They said that the house next door was broken into and a lot of things were stolen and did I see anyone. I did not and they have a lot of trees so i really can't see their yard much. It could have just as easily been my house that was broken into. I really was incapacitated because of the surgery and could not get around without a walker. I recently bought a handgun and shotgun and I have been going to a gun range to leanr to shoot because i don't think the police can protect me.
@exitseven Police have no legal obligation to protect anyone, the SCOTUS has ruled on it decades ago. Multiple cases in fact.
Their job is to figure out who did it after the fact, and attempt to bring them in for justice.
It is up to us to defend ourselves.
They don’t do that part very well, either. The Honolulu police took 3,600 burglary reports last year and made 120 arrests, for a 3.3% closure rate. For some crimes, I think vandalism is one, they have a sub 1% closure rate.
A friend and one of his neighbors tackled a burglar and held him for police. The cop failed to show up in court three times and the judge had to dismiss the case. If I don’t show up in court when subpoenaed, they issue warrant for my arrest.
@MikeInHawaii Exactly, when I lived in Las Vegas someone shot up my car and apartment, the police thought their entire job was to file a report so I could use it with my insurance to get stuff fixed.
They didn't even bother to go get any bullets or anything to run through the system to see if the gun was in the system.
No wonder more people die from gang warfare than actual mass shootings and people don't seem to care about that at all.
The media has focused on the occasional mass shooting, rather than the daily gang warfare and innocence people getting hit by stray bullets.
I have a stack of 3x5 cards with case numbers! I only bother filing reports because, whenever people stop, some clueless, ass hole mayor will say crime is dropping.
Grey area. Back in times long past when everyone carried weapons it just made instant population control easier. Luck of the draw (of sword). At least then crime and crime prevention gave more of an entertaining skilled display. Guns are cowardly in comparison.

I wonder if you ever actually try to think things through before you post them. Have you ever studied what happened during Prohibition, when they tried to ban alcohol? It's an interesting argument, since most liberals I've come across will strongly speak out about how "you can't ban alcohol because look what happened with Prohibition" but then completely ignore that little lesson from history and try to say that banning guns wouldn't have the same effect.
A little fyi though, since more college campuses have allowed guns on campus, crime is WAY down in every category. Interesting because all the anti-gun crowd were screeching in the streets about how it would turn campus into "the wild west", while the reality has been quite the opposite. Perhaps that's why it's no longer a leftist talking point. 🤣
Short answer, is yes. At least on campus, more guns has directly led to LESS crime and it's not even debatable which is why anti-gun cultists have stopped trying except for mainstream media which will still throw in the "turning our schools in the wild west" commentary just for shits and giggles because it's verifiably false information at this point. Peace out, homie.
1) i never said “ban guns” outside any soliloquy in a past post. My position is simply safety regs.
2) do you have any data that shows more guns reduce crime? Because o seriously only find the opposite. At best, responsible gun owners have contributed in certain cases, but thats a drop in the bucket.
They can, Guns are a fool humans like always are the problem, But if someone is breaking into your house and you do the click clack on a pump action shot gun intruders tend to run away because they don’t want to get shot. Having a gun in your house in a secure are is important to help prevent violent crime
There isn’t a good resent study but here a news article www.wyff4.com/.../10033021#
Yea the statistic I use to use is no longer available, But it was pretty broad to begin with I think it was between 500,00-3 million
Week article because of who posted it very obvious a pro gun website but here ya go www.ammoland.com/.../#axzz7cwrt3oC4
Unfortunately google being a left wing company has hidden the stats which make it hard to find because google controls pretty much every search engine even DuckDuckGo which conservatives love is own by you guest it google.
True economic down turns of course leads to more suicide and death. And of course we know who to blame when millions of Americans and Europeans start committing suicide. In order of actual responsibility
1 CCP for releasing a pandemic
2 Joe Biden for making America look incredibly weak on the world stage and encouraging Putin invade Ukraine
3 green energy activists for forcing us off of fossil fuels into green energy when we still need fossil fuels Green energy will never be available option to maintain the economy we have today which means we go to three energies more people commit suicide or commit mass shootings
4 Putin for in saving Ukraine. Putin is the least at fault here but since the United States was stupid enough to elect joe Biden the people of Ukraine suffer because of democracy
Guns definitely stop large numbers of crimes. The real question is if the number of crimes stopped by guns is greater than the number caused by guns. I'm too lazy atm to compare the two, especially considering you have to somehow weight the type of crimes, rather than total number of all crimes.
The whole argument that "more guns mean more crimes" doesn't take this into account. It only looks at one side of the coin, so it's pretty meaningless.
Nothing current. The numbers I've seen vary quite a bit. The reason is that they are estimates, not hard numbers. When crimes are committed, there are hard numbers. When crimes are prevented, no crime was committed, so no crime is reported, so there is no official record. Very like nothing was ever reported in the first place, not even that a crime was stopped. So the only numbers available are estimates.
Anyway, the numbers I've seen are at least in the hundreds of thousands per year, up to a couple of million. I seriously doubt numbers that high myself. Bottom line is that nobody knows.
I have prevented a crime myself, and I know others who have.
Simple googler. Like hou guys hide your head in the sand.

More guns by law abiding citizens does reduce violent crime. It is statistically proven. I even did a research project on it years ago when I was going to college for a Criminal Justice degree.
More guns owned by criminals increases crime.
Less guns for law abiding citizens and more guns for criminals GREATLY increases violent crime.
Much of the information would come from the national crime report (crime statistics), and crimes based on locations and comparing the laws in those locations.
You could also look at crime statistics for places with very strict gun control laws like Chicago, NY, LA, etc. They all have high amounts of violent crime with their strict anti-gun laws, while other places that have more lax gun laws for law abiding people have much less violent crime statistics.
Oh dont worry, I looked up a report for you
www.medrxiv.org/.../2020.07.02.20145508v1.full
Guns are inanimate objects... They either assist in crimes or assist in the prevention of them.. Chicago is a good example of Gun control not stopping gun crimes.. It has someone the tightest gun restrictions but the worst gun deaths per capita... I believe guns being in the hands of more citizens would assist in reducing crime.. Because of more people have guns on them, criminals will think twice about doing crimes..
When I look over to Afghanistan, I have certain doubts.
Crime depends on the people, not poverty or guns. In the USA, violent crime is primarily an African problem--the European American crime rate fits fine into European stats.
If we actually want to address homicide in the USA, make it illegal for Africans to own guns. They'll proceed to be stabbing each other, but they're 13% of the population who commit over 51% of the homicides.
I think they do. If bad guys have to wonder if they will get shot if the stick up a convenience store they will think twice before trying it.
@exitseven People who rob stores are not exactly known for good planning.
@Aerissa_Jade CCTV is a deterrent. One that doesn't involve making holes in people.
@goaded A deterrent that all one has to do it put on a facemask isn't much of a deterrent.
Plus I'm okay putting holes in criminals. They have no rights given to them from their victims, and they deserve it and not just a shot or two...15 or so, you know to protect society from them ever again and in it should be illegal to try and bring charges up on someone who was merely doing self defense.
Those prosecutors who attempt to do so should be thrown in prison with all the people they've convicted before.
Self defense is a Human Right.
In the right hands, yes. Right now all the criminals have the guns. Where i live, you cannot defend yourself because you cannot carry a gun. Except we hear about shootings involving street gangs, the mafia and the biker gangs every day now.
Isn`t the price of the bullets really expensive?
Yeah, sounds good because the bullets are harder to get than the gun. But isn't there a big uptick in gun store robberies? I know they are armed to defend the store but i have still seen successful robberies happen. One of them was a gang who pulled up in a 4 by 4 with a chain attached to the tow bar. They tied it to the door and just used the horsepower of the 4 by 4 to rip the door off. They were all armed to their teeth when they left.
More guns reduce the risk you will become a victim to crime.
That link's hilarious! Why don't you try to imagine what it's like to live in a country where people can't just "[bust] the window out of a friend’s car in the parking lot, [grab] a.40 caliber handgun from inside the car, and [begin] firing". It's easy if you try!
The "good guy with a gun" didn't do shit, except get himself shot four times.
"This very angry (and possibly intoxicated) man then busted the window out of a friend’s car in the parking lot, grabbed a.40 caliber handgun from inside the car, and began firing in the air. In the meantime, Ben McCoy, a man who witnessed all of this from inside his own vehicle, happened to have his rifle with him. Before he could use it, he was shot four times by the man wielding the.40 caliber handgun, who then fled into the woods.
Fortunately, despite being hit in the chest, stomach, left arm and right thigh, McCoy is recuperating, and the assailant was quickly apprehended. No one was killed, but the situation would likely have been tragically different if Ben McCoy and his rifle hadn’t distracted the gunman."
Talk about fish not knowing that water is wet!
@joeldalton It was a good try! But Lott has been debunked already. A for effort though. I appreciate trying.
https://www.gvpedia.org/gun-myths/occur-in/
Lmao. I love you propagandist.. er.. fact checkers are here to save the day.
Oh, god, was that Lott again? He's a lying asshole. Does Europe have more mass shootings than the USA? ↗
Banning guns only punishes the law abiding person; criminals will always get guns no matter how much you ban them.
Yes, but what can really reduce crime is religion and belief in God. If God returns to American schools and Christian and traditional values are taught instead of modern liberal ones, and if these horrible Hollywood movies that promote violence, sex, greed, materialism and everything else that is wrong and immoral are banned, then we will largely deal with crime.
Dylann Roof bragged about believing in God. He shot up a bunch of Black churchgoers
I’d support it on two conditions.
1. It must be done openly and publicly, no exceptions.
2. The judge who sentences someone to death must be the one who carries out the sentence, no exceptions.
If more guns reduced crime, we would see reduced crime, but instead we see an uptick in mass shootings & gun violence.
You have to look at more than one factor. Japan has almost no guns and a much lower crime rate. The Swiss are very heavily armed and their crime rates are even lower.
Many mass shooting involve psychotropic drugs, but the liberals in the media ignore that.
What does a gun do? How does that reduce crimes? Look at countries with more guns and you see more gun crimes... where is the logic? Yea fun to shoot a gun but realistically look at the statistics
if people have are trained how to handle them correctly then they can help reduce crime to some degree.
typo *if people are trained how to handle them correctly. then they can help reduce crime to some degree.*
A criminal doesn't know who is trained and armed and who isn't. The mere legality and known presence of crime makes the odds said criminal would not survive said robbery much higher and thus the benefit of said life choices far less appealing.
Keeps a woman from getting raped.
Or a disabled person from getting killed.
But hey fuck them, right? 🙄
Gun control doesn’t stop criminals from getting guns
Yes, criminals are not fond of victims that can shoot back.
Haven’t met a gun yet that killed anyone! They always seem to have some help when that happens!
