USA has the second biggest arsenal of nuclear weapons. Are we a genocidal nation? Nuclear weapons are designed to kill civilians. In a war against Russia, China or the Arabs - It makes us look like the bad guys and we have other means to make them stop fighting. Truman thought that when MacArthur wanted to bomb the Chinese - Korean border 50x, he was fired. We removed nukes from Turkey and the Soviets removed nukes from Cuba. I think the USA should dismantle its nuclear arsenal first and maybe others would follow, who cares! America first 🇺🇸

So this is the scenario you're wanting. Two people are facing each other and one is wanting a fight. They both have guns. You're asking the one who doesn't want a fight to take his gun and toss it while the other one is still pointing it at the first guy. And you think because guy #1, tosses his gun, guy #2 will think, "Gee, he got rid of his gun. Maybe I should too..."

The US and Russia both used to have a heck of a lot more. They negotiated for years and agreed to dramatically reduce their stock. They did it more or less at the same time, with both sides having verification.

Every country should give up their nukes, but unfortunately that won't happen. Even worse, more and more countries are gaining that capability. Everyone wants to have them because the other guys have them. That's a cycle that just snowballs as more and more countries get them.

No one has the balls or permission to use nukes. Hence it's only a deterrent.

Even if the president gave the right codes - it's still the military chain of command that will carry out the launch. But they won't, as it's mutual destruction if they do.

Thus it's a moot question.

Using nukes while you are still on the planet is like setting your building on fire -while living in it- just to watch your neighbour die before you do.

US a genocidal nation? Yes, in the last 50 years over 1.5 million gun deaths which totals more dead than in all US wars.

To focus your attention into a sensible direction, ask yourself one other. What do you think has prevented Russia from using nukes in Cuba and currently, The Ukraine. The answer is fear of retaliation from other nuclear powers.

It's always been a joke to me that America wants to control who has nukes when we're the only nation who ever used one! Yet we act so paranoid about other people using them. But then, I guess that would be why. Fear of repercussion.

I think no nation should have any nukes, but since we do you still have to protect yourself in case of the worst.
