The FBI site also has tons of crime data. I've been digging through FBI data for a good 15 years or more.

Although realistically you have to break it down more than just city and state. You need to look at individual areas. You also have to consider which types of crimes. You can go to any city and fairly easily spot the good and bad parts of the city. Like where I live there is almost no violent crime, I even leave my doors open at night when I sleep. But 10-15 miles away is much different.

In general you want to stick to the suburbs and stay away from the inner city. That's not true of every city because some inner cities are relatively nice.

Why didn't you just Google it instead of guessing? if you did, you’d see most of the top 10 violent cities in the country are in red States.
