I am tired of the bible belt, what state is the most different from this place?

Go to Boston, Massachusetts or something like that. New England tends to be the least religious region of the country which would stand as a cultural contrast to the south. Additionally, New England tends to be among the rudest places in the nation. Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, etc. tend to near the top of the list for the rudest states which would highly contrast southern hospitality. It's cold and grey in the north east in contrast to the warm sunny weather in the south. There is tons of air pollution and water pollution in the north east. If you open your windows driving down the Jersey turnpike your lungs will burn and you'll feel like your eye balls are going to melt. That is much different than say the clean mountain air in the Blue Ridge Mountains. In north eastern cities they like to let their garbage roast on the sidewalk during the summer so that it's nice and odoriferous... That's part of the local culture. Every thing is very busy and congested. People fight over parking spots, they honk at each other constantly, they have fist fights on the sidewalks, there are traffic jams galore. If you really want dense traffic try your luck at I-95 north bound leaving NYC through Connecticut. You can sit in traffic for hours without moving. That's much different than the open spaces and winding country roads in the south.

All the Democrats love to hate Florida and claim we are religious nuts down here. So lets look at it by the numbers

Florida
53% of Floridians say that religion is very important in their lives.
35% of Floridians say they attend worship services at least weekly.
56% of Floridians say they pray daily.
64% of Floridians say they believe in God with absolute certainty.

California
47% of Californians say that religion is very important in their lives.
31% of Californians say they attend worship services at least weekly.
51% of Californians say they pray daily.
54% of Californians say they believe in God with absolute certainty.

Massachusetts
33% of Massholes say that religion is very important in their lives.
23% of Massholes say they attend worship services at least weekly.
37% of Massholes say they pray daily.
40% of Massholes say they believe in God with absolute certainty.

Moving from somewhere like Florida to California will only drop religiousness by a couple of percentage point, but if you were to move to Massachusetts you’d notice a significant decline.

State? Things vary within states. If you want to get away from the "Bible" part of the Bible belt, anywhere on the Pacific coast, from San Diego to San Francisco or from Portland to Vancouver, or anywhere in New England. I'm in tech in Seattle and no one I know here is at all religious.
