Why has the US Congress never opened an investigation into the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty?

Today, we take a look back at our first documentary, Sacrificing Liberty. On June 8, 1967, while patrolling in international waters in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, the USS Liberty was savagely attacked without warning or justification by air and naval forces of the state of Israel. Thanks for all your responses concerning the deliberate attack by Israel on the USS Liberty.
Thankfully they failed to kill the brave men that can be seen in this incredible documentary.

I wiki’d it. Interesting article. Israel was fighting the Six Day war and the Liberty was a spy ship. Friendly fire. But israel apologized and gave a billion to the families of sailors lost.

I want to say we shot down a commerical plane by accident once…

@OddBeMe. This wasn't an accident. The Israelis we're upset the Liberty was doing signals collection on them (in international waters). There is an excellent and chilling documentary on this attack including survivor reports of Israeli helicopters machine gunning crew members in the water.

@OddBeMe. I remember that shit down clearly. The Vincennes was engaged in combat at the time, did broadcast numerous warnings on guard frequency (121.5, which all are expected to monitor), and the aircraft was heading directly toward the Vincennes. The Vincennes had every right to fire.

This is a very different incident than the Liberty.

@KrakenAttackin the civilian aircraft was flying its usual route from Iran’s nearby airport. Any half brained combat commander would note flight paths of local civilian planes. Just because it didn't respond to the Vincennes doesn't give us the right to kill civilians.

@OddBeMe. I'm not saying the Vincennes was "right", I am saying the ok information the Vincennes had at the moment led them to believe the aircraft might be hostile. If I am not mistaken this wasn't all that long after the USS Stark was hit by an Exocet fired by an (Iraqi) aircraft.

The difference is the Vincennes was an accident, a bad call, a fuck up. The Liberty was a deliberate and premeditated attack.

@KrakenAttackin Still dont see the difference. Liberty was in international waters. Iraqi flight was on its usual flight path. Things do get fcked up in war. I’m not calling for war crimes trials. But there's really no differnce I can tell logically. If anything the Israelis were in a war and the Vincennes was just there.

@berethor. No. Wrong. The Israeli jets reported the ship was flying an American flag THREE TIMES, and each time they were directed to proceed with the attack. This was no accident, it was a deliberate attack.

@berethor. Not true. There are recordings of the Israeli flight leader verifying THREE TIMES with his commander that the Liberty was flying an American flag and THREE TIMES being ordered to attack. This was a deliberate attack. Do a search for the Liberty documentary on you tube.
