i don't vote because i disagree with indirect democraty. voting any party won't make that any better for me and the only way i can express my disagreement is by taking legitimacy away from a system by my refusal to use it.

in my opinion, "indirect democracy" is the wrong word for the system we have in most western world countries. we have democratic vote for the representants of the oligarchy that we live in. we do not have indirect democracy in the sense that our vote could lead to any policy changes that are in our favor.

the only "real" democracy i know is switzerland, where the people actually are directly asked to vote on policies, not "representants" who end up just doing whatever the most paying "donor" asks them to.

the only reason they feed people that stupid "you gotta vote" argument is because they know very well that the legitimacy of their government hinges on votes. without votes, government can't have legitimacy and will fall apart. that's why they want you to vote. not because voting helps you in any way.

Thank you for expressing your views and I would agree as the votes are for senators and president involve more people that money can be an influence. However I still vote as there were things very local on the ballet and I want to participate in those decisions here in my community.

In line I overheard someone who said in the last election the winner won by 3 votes, didn’t hear for what seat. Still when it comes to 3 votes that’s still evidence that voting matters.

hey man, i'm never gonna look down on people fo participating in a system that they trust or at least believe in. having that freedom is the greatest good we have in our society and i commend everyone for making use of the options they have in the way that they feel is best for them. more power to you and i genuinely hope it works for you. i personally lost faith in this system even though i still have to acknowledge that everything else we tried before sucked more than what we have now.

i do feel the urge tho to comment on your statement about the 3 votes, not to invalidate your thoughts on that but just to see how you reflect what i think about it. so specially in the USA, having basically a 2 party system (let's not act as if there's more than 2 parties that carry any significance in that country), they have to be very close in policy in order to maximize voter turnout. they gotta cash in on voters of the opposing party or else they're gonna fall back. that's why in the USA, votes are always gonna be very close to 50:50. though i think that whatever ends up winning doesn't make a big difference because they're both right wing parties that represent oligarchs. maybe a different set of oligarchs but oligarchs anyway. i don't think any of the parties will make acutal political decisions that benefit the average voter more than the donors.

We dropped off our ballots last week, I think it was a pleasant afternoon because my husband bicycled to the ballot drop off.

I considered voting early but wanted to give the campaigns time to complete debates and give out policy information.

I didn't have to stand in line but we got redistricted so my voting place was changed and when I got there because I wasn't listed in the registered Republican section (they sort us like that here in OK) they tried arguing with me trying to tell me I wasn't supposed to vote there... Then after arguing with them for 10 min (I literally live across the field from the voting place) they were like "oh, I keep forgetting to look in the other sections."

Be it intentional or incompetence this isn't okay.
