Why has suicide rates doubled among Gen Z and why is it so high among this age group?

Why are so many people in Generation Z suicidal? The suicide rates increased by 56% from 2007 to 2017 people in this age group. For children between ages 10-14 years of age, suicide rates

Other statistics which are worrying includes the following:

1. 42% of people in Gen Z have a feeling of hopelessness which is 2x higher than the % for those over 25.

2. 18% of people in Gen Z feel like they would be better off dead which when compared to the 5% for those over 25 is a 3x increase.

My guess would be the constant atmosphere of hopelessness and despair they're bombarded with, coupled with the comparison-based social media pressures they deal with, which makes them VERY susceptible to doomsayers. Add in the lousy economic conditions they've inherited, and as awful as this sounds, it's surprising MORE of them don't off themselves (good, don't get me wrong, but surprising).

Then Covid came, and things got even worse- isolation drove even more to online-only interaction, seeing those ideas clung to even as it became increasingly apparent that they were a total waste of time and lives (especially for a group that had nothing to fear from the disease), and the already-struggling economy was gutted. If they DO manage to resist the siren song of climate alarmism (no, Florida is not going to be under ten feet of water by the year 1985), they'll be smart enough to realize that that very alarmism keeps anyone from taking the risk seriously (since one botched model, even if everyone keeps insisting on it, doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist). Then they get told that entire groups of people are horribly bigoted, meaning they'll either be victims or perpetrators of discrimination, and face a form of original sin in a church with no absolution. THEN they complain about their conditions and get told by older Millennials and younger Gen Xers that "the problem is that your parents didn't beat you enough". You'll probably see some of that in the answers to this very question.

It's always the younger ones who do it more and that's Experience probably. Older people have been through bad times and come out on the other side. Meanwhile younger people don't see that's how life is there will be bad times and good times. And if ya just wait you'll come out of you issues.

I could be wrong but pretty sure it is just this. If you've lived to 25 already impulsive acts aren't as tempting, meanwhile if younger you are more likely to do the impulsive act.
There is a reason why teenagers are always risking their lives doing bad things meanwhile oldies try to be healthy. It's a mentally difference.

I’m 35… I want family but feel like a haunted house considering how many times I’ve been ghosted. I don’t have any family and friends live the next town over. I’ve been in pain for a month now and yet still working my shift at work. I bust ass to be a better person and a better man than I was the day before and I’m not like the sheep that just blindly follow. I do things my way. I’ve learned some interesting things though.


Women say they want men to be more emotional but if you show emotion they get disgusted for it. Who wants to spend time around a crybaby? The need for emotional connection is there but the connections themselves are not.


Until your valued your expendable. Since bullies were a thing people say their opinions don’t matter but they do. The ability to find a partner, make friends, get that good job, get the raise, etc is all dependent on what others think. You should only allow what the people you care about move you emotionally but you still have to consider what others think of you.


Men and women are told what they should and shouldn’t do for their own good from bad sources. We have to trust blindly or else learn on our own because our generation is all single parents… we lack the role models to build ourselves after. The kind pretty words seem the best but pretty words are rarely the reality of the world. Nobody knows what is expected of them so their lost. Women believe having children takes something from them without giving anything in return and men believe women will only use them and nobody cares about them. Neither side really knows what they want or how to get it.


I’ve learned so much more as well that completely upends how we think of the world, society, and ourselves… but I’m tired I got work tonight.

Bro, what do you think the reasons are?

Literally Gen Z, literally from childhood as little kids, have been told:

• You will not own a home, possibly a car, and you shouldn't have a family. it's too expensive anyways because the older generations' politics has ruined the economy
• Talking about things ruined by older people, the planet is too messed up and you'll die by the time you're 12, no 18, no 22, no 27- screw it, climate change will kill you someday.
• Don't have a family, own a car, don't eat that or that, just don't exist because you're contributing to climate change.
• If you do exist, work a job you don't hate for the rest of your life (You won't get to retire anyways because of the economy and because you'll die from global warming). Don't get married or have any kids though, just slave away for some crappy company. Also don't socialize with people doing some of the major years of your life; can't even have dinner with your family because you'll kill your old parents and grandma!

There's also the screwed up political climate older generations bombarded them with while also having to deal with the rising divisive rhetoric. There's also the screwed up state of relationships and negativity that surrounds the topic at every angle.

because life was cheap and easy back then. Any idiot who couldn't succeed in school could end up with a house, car, 3 kids and a wife. Nowadays, college tuition cost twice as much as it did back then. Even with a college degree, many kids still can't afford to buy a house.

I also believe that social media has left people more isolated and competitive than ever before. There are also more assholes in today's dating scene than 30 years ago. Online dating permits that.

• They are constantly on the internet seeking validation from other, being lead down dangerous paths from people who don't have their best interest or are just as lost
• They have no parental guidance. They're parents are either not physically, emotionally, or mentally there to give them the advice that will help them grow or use in a time of need. To many parents have become soft and bend to anything their children say or want or because society gets in the way and wants to control the parents. Some parents don't know how to be parents and try act more like a friend than actually parent when needed.
• Lack of God in their lives, this generation is being raised in a Godless society, with Godless parents, that don't teach them about Christ anymore. These kids are mentally and spiritually lost and have no idea where to go and who to turn to.

this is the result of what happens when blue-pill people get shielded from cold harsh truth of reality growing up. then they take a dose of the red-pill and it's too much to handle.

after all, gen z is the generation that grew up with social media, phones in their hands, peak celebrity worship, peak leftist indoctrination, families broken apart due to divorce, fatherlessness, the need for validation and feeling popular because everybody wants to be part of the cool crowd.

the persistency of the left while annoying is somewhat admirable as they show a lot of determination in hammering down on older generations that try to help the younger generation, often slandering them with labels such as sexist, racist, homophobic etc. to the point they give up.

Life is simply just worse for young people these days. When I was younger in the 90s, movies were better, TV shows were better, music was better, houses were more affordable, there was less threat of terror, there was more job security, there was less family breakdown and it just felt better in those days. Nowadays pretty much everything sucks, with renters being squeezed like crazy, people trying to get a mortgage getting wrecked with interest rates and only those who got in earlier being okay. I can understand why people are suiciding out of hopelessness and despair and more should be done to actually help people rather than just saying that people need help.

Increase in divorce rates or out of wedlock births to begin with, parents are not allowed to discipline them and schools won’t, lack of opportunities their parents enjoyed, the majority of them are trained in schools to hate themselves for the color they were born and the males are trained to hate themselves for their gender and their race, they are trained to hate their country if they live in the west yet still forced to pay taxes to it and follow its laws, the cost of living bs the average wage is spread so far that t is impossible to get ahead without going into school debt, etc. it’s not hard to understand why some of them wonder what’s the point and take the easy way out.

We live in a time that does not favor the young, and Gen Z are the new up and coming adults to enter it. Housing costs have sky rocketed, the cost of going to college is increasing, there's climate change, global pandemics, current events, lack of job security, low wages, increased stress, policies that benefit the wealthy, and so much more.

I read the obits all the time and if a white guy in his 40s and 50s is dead it is probably a suicides. If he is in his 20s it is an OD. I think covid is the problem. A lot of people feel isolated and cannot see things getting better. That is how I ended up here.

Because mommy and daddy made all of the tough decisions for them while growing up. Not teaching them work ethics or making them accept responsibility for their actions.
Now they have no idea how to handle those two things and taking the easy way out!

Social media. It's not a coincidence that facebook became available to the general public in 2006 and by 2009 it had 300 million users. Most probably Americans. Now you truly get skewed view of how truly pathetic your life is and how much better everyone you know is than you without even leaving the house.
