Why is Qatar so controversial?

Because hosting an international event of this type is a great honour and priviledge for the hosting nation and the role of that nation is to ensure that all of the people coming to event are able to do so safely and easily etc.

So if you are a nation which imposes the death penalty for being gay or whatever then you are quite simply not a suitable host.

Qatar should never have been allowed to host this event.

It is no different that excluding a nation for having inadequate infrastructure or similar.

They simply cannot do the job.

Restriction on alchool just for a small nation
To big and impresive stadions in to short time (people die for thous buildings)
No respect for humans right
Is the worst timing for Wold Coup to be play in winter, competitional sistem is fucked up for clubs and the player may get lot of injurys afther this competition when they will play in theyr normal championsips
No tradition in football ever and any conection whit it.

Cuz they bribed the ex fifa president to be the host even though they weren't conventionally prepared for it... It's super hot in Qatar so world cup had to be in the middle of the football season in winter which is very unsettling and many players are already injured and missing... Plus Qatar had to build many stadiums in a short time and many workers died due hard conditions and lack of human rights... And Qatar is also kinda strict about alcohol, promiscuous sex, gay rights and stuff related to foreign / western cultures and prohibited many of these things during the visit which is not really authentic considering the host of the world cup should be able to welcome all the cultures from around the world.. The name is literally " world " cup...

because the west sees all arab nations as poor with only a few people having all of the money. why would the few people with money buy the world cup instead of helping its people?

there is always controversy... about any country hosting both the World Cup and the Olympics... Qatar is not the exception
