American soccer player Tyler Adams was criticized recently by an Iranian journalist who stated:
"First of all, you say you support the Iranian people, but you're pronouncing our country's name wrong," Javanmardi said. "Our country is named ur·aan, not eye·ran. Please, once and for all, let's get this clear."
They also questioned whether he felt good about representing a country that discriminates against African Americans (which is why they're on our soccer team, right?) Adams apologized, but he's a bit more gracious than I would have been. My response to that statement is:
1) You live in a desert
2) Your medieval period is from 600 A. D. - present
3) You worship a false God
4) Your players will probably have their feet cut off when they lose
5) It's a free country so I can pronounce Iran how I want to
