usually you will find a conservative scared of the individual worker owning the means of production, apparently conservatives feel that only rich people can control the economy.

I hate to break it to you... but most big companies are owned by their stockholders.
Yes, there are a handful of companies like Amazon and Tesla where one person owns a large portion of the stock, but most companies are owned by a large number of stockholders.
If you have a 401K from work, you're a stockholder in a lot of the companies by way of your 401K.
that is not what I mean, what I mean is that they are afraid of not being able to take advantage of workers, that is why they hate unions.
And then again, there are plenty of cases where union demands have made companies non-competitive to the point where they go out of business or enable companies in other countries to take over.
Did you ever wonder why at least half of the cars on the road in the USA are made by non-US companies? And most of the ones that are made in the USA by non-US companies like Toyota and Honda are made in non-union factories !!!
For the same reason it scares anyone with a modicum of historical knowledge: every time it's tried, it ends with GOVERNMENT people controlling the means of production. Rich people want to get richer; they'll keep things moving. Government people just want more power and more bureaucracy.
Because the bourgeoisie are afraid of the proletariat discovering their true value. Education is the enemy of tyrants because as soon as workers realize how valuable they are a revolution will ensue.
