Any word on student loan forgiveness?

I understand that it's blocked right now. Has anyone here cashed out before then?

My problem is that I have not accumulated $20k+ in debt but I'm sure to get close as I keep going. So if it ever does get un-blocked, I hope I can still apply 5-10 years down the line.

Do keep in mind, that currently after graduation when the loans come due, there are programs you can get into where if you pay for 20 years, then whatever is left over is forgiven.

That has existed for a very long time. They say you only need to pay 10% of your disposable income each month.

You have to look into doing it right though, if you don't then it won't apply. Might want to make sure your on that program if you aren't sure.

As for the current debt transfer that Biden promised, I hope no one was given the money because of the SCOTUS rules against Biden they'll have to pay it back.

This is never going to happen. Democrats used it to buy votes and then found out Biden does not have the authority to give away that much money. I guess it is too late to get you vote back. Now e are stuck with these moonbats. Besides that, they have moved on to reparations for slavery that happened 170 years ago. maybe they can buy back the black vote.

From the reads of it, you have it wrong.

It's not really "loan forgiveness" but rather, a reduction on what you owe, based on set circumstances. So if you've blown out your credit and maxed out, but are expecting a "bank bailout" like we saw a few years ago for the corporations and banks - then you're mistaken.

Last I heard my application was processed and I was entitled to it, then they sent a notice that it was blocked because of litigation until at least June 2023, then they sent another email that my application wasn't processed because of the litigation.

If they actually cared about helping people get their loans paid off by predatory loaners. They should have eliminated interest and factored in all prior payments while giving tax credit to those who had already paid their loans off. This would have benefitted everyone. But they didn’t want that. They wanted people to vote Democrat in the mid-terms.

The loan servicers, at least the government ones like Nelnet, automatically file an application for you, so you don’t have to worry about it. Realistically, student loan forgiveness probably won’t materialize. There’s just no legal justification for it.

There are a lot of people who can't make payments on the loans, so interest keeps building up, just like on the US National Debt. Except students can't raise taxes to pay for it.

Yea. Work hard and pay it off like the rest of us had to. I made sacrifices for years. No vacations, no extra spending on my self, hell went to food banks sometimes because money was so tight. Only way I see this being fair is if the govt then agrees to pay back all those that actually put in the work and paid theirs off. Otherwise it just feels like a big “F you” To the rest of us.

True. The problem is that some in society have been pushing the idea that people shouldn't have responsibilities... just lots of fun. The stuff people should be responsible for is turned into government programs (where bureaucrats can skim money off the top). But the money has to come from somewhere. At some point the responsible people will just collectively refuse to pay taxes. The government can't arrest everybody.

What would you say if your college loans were forgiven. But in order for that to happen. When you hang out your shingle at your college educated business. That was paid for by the average working taxpayer. You need to provide free services for one year to anyone that pays taxes that needs your expertise!

It is not happening in its current form. The Constitution requires that such an act pass the House and Senate. The President does not have unilateral authority to forgive debts.

Why are they asking their neighbors to forgive their loans, and not asking the banks to forgive their loans? I'm pretty sure that if you explained to your bank that you'd rather not uphold your end of the financial contract, they'd let you out of the obligation.
