Americans, do you find British English hard to understand? Do you realise the spelling differences?

I recognise that Africa is not a country.

Slapping in extraneous vowels usually isn't a problem; it's not hard to figure out what you mean. Putting in extra syllables ("aluminum" is only supposed to have four) or outright mispronunciations (the Romans would be just as confused why you pronounce "Thames" as "Tems" just because some dolt in a specific chair had a speech impediment centuries ago) is trickier, but manageable.

Listing dates, however, is just inexcusable- unless you KNOW that only people who do it your way are going to read it, writing 6/3/23 should get you slapped upside the head when you can just as easily make it "June 3, 23" or "March 6, 23", or even "6 March 23".

Likewise, a period is not a comma- 20.000 is twenty, not twenty thousand; decimal points have a VERY SPECIFIC MEANING when it comes to numbers, but you guys generally seem to grasp that; it's mainland Europe that seems to struggle. But even there, it's mainland Europe; you have a tendency to refer to it as "Continental", despite the facts that 1. Europe is not a continent (you know the Chromatic canal? The one that connects the Black Sea to the White, and divides Europe and Asia? Yeah, that's because it doesn't exist), and 2. you're part of the same continent.

Some British accents can be hard to understand, but usually it's not a problem.

Yes, I know some of the spelling, grammar and vocabulary differences. It's never a problem understanding it though - except possibly some slang that I'm not familiar with - even then I can usually figure it out by context.

I generally have no real issue understanding the accent unless it is thick which is generally the case for anyone from anywhere, but talk about pain in my side when I occasionally edit papers from said Brits because technically, they are absolutely correct in their spelling/grammar...if they were in the UK, but welcome to America where they quickly "realize" there is a difference. Even writing the date is problematic when filling out forms because if they were born April 3, for them it's 3/4/92 and here it's 4/3/92. Try explaining to the people who invented the language that it's now wrong, lol!

Some of the regional accents are damn hard to understand. The spelling is pretty self explanatory, and I'm a shit speller anyways so I wouldn't even notice the difference. Like all of those words look right to me. lol

What throws ME is the slang, and how you guys have different names for things.
