Can black people fish?

I've never seen black people fishing in my life, is there are reason why they dont like fishing?

This guy has a YouTube channel I like a lot Brian Latimer. I wouldn’t say black folks don’t fish though. But it’s apparently dominated by white folks at the professional level, according to B-Lat here.

I don’t know Latimer’s life story, but I get the sense that he’s kinda country. I grew up around a lot of black people, but in an urban setting, and firstly, none of us were fishing since there was nowhere to fish in our neighborhood, and secondly, I definitely noted that a lot of black folks (in city environments at least) were skittish about nature. Like there was a raccoon around once, and everyone was joking and telling me to take care of it, as it was “white people stuff”, lmao. So the idea of unhooking a fish or even just being out in the wilderness and fear of what you might encounter may be a factor. But I know plenty of people who are white or something else who have the same issue.

I never really thought of fishing as a decidedly white pastime though. I have no concept of country life, I don’t know how it goes around there, but my friend, who is actually Asian, says he tells people that he fishes and some folks are kind of like “really?”, and act as if it’s kind of a hillbilly activity. But his ancestors in Japan fished like crazy, some were just fisherman by trade. So I don’t know, maybe it’s more of a country vs urban thing, and I’d need to know more about rural demographics before I could really even begin to speculate further. I’m not country at all, I just have a few friends who did it a few times a year and I eventually joined in. The last few years I’ve kind of been on life-sabbatical, haha, so I fish like every other day, but I happen to be in a very good area for it relative to the rest of the immediate region. I’m able to make a fairly short drive to reach a rural area.

I’d say I’m overall more surprised when I see women fishing, since it’s gotta be 90-some percent men doing all the fishing, at least that I’ve seen. (I’m talking about legitimate fishing hobbyists, not just someone fishing on an occasion or two.) A lot of women don’t seem to be into the handling of a slimy fish, haha. But this is just all based on my own experience, so who knows, I could be totally wrong.

There's one negro gentleman that comes to my lake every week to shore fish, but he's one of the only ones I've seen. I've met a few others who fish for bass and catfish. Catfish is quite common. But now that I think of it, you're kind of right.
The ones in Africa and the Caribbean obviously fish, but I've noticed the ones in the Caribbean just throw a giant net out, so they can catch as many fish with as little work as possible. Blacks don't seem to have the kind of patience required for fishing.

I've never seen one fishing before. It's pretty popular here with locals and tourists alike. But that could just be down to the fact that blacks are pretty scarce here.
Seen a few Asians, who tend not to pay much notice to size limits or conservation much to the annoyance of other anglers.

In the south Black people fish. Generally they fish off of bridges here in Florida around the Intracoastal Waterway. Inshore fishing... Redfish, Black Drum, Flounder, Permit, Pompano, Mangrove Snapper, Seatrout, Sheephead, Snook, Spanish Mac, Whiting, Jacks, etc. Sometimes you see them fishing some rivers and lakes for Catfish and Panfish...

A work friend of mine (he's a white mother fucker) grew up in a small town of all white mother fuckers that had a river going through it. He said a lot of blacks would come on weekends to fish for carp. They came from a bigger city about 25 miles away. Apparently, the city they lived in didn't have rivers. So, YES, blacks can fish. Both physically and legally.

Of course they can. Usually people who fish live near the sea or lakes which are usually unaffordable for a lot of black people, or you need to own a boat and fishing gear which costs a lot of money.

That's probably why you don't see many fishing.
