It depends on the nature of the catfish. If you fool a lonely person who has little chance of getting a partner into thinking that they have found love, yeah, you could say that's a sin because it's really cruel to play with someone's heart like that.

What if it’s to prove someone’s husband would cheat on them with a stranger? Proof for her so she can finally leave an abusive (mentally, emotionally and physically) relationship. She believes she can only leave him (break the marriage vow) if he were to cheat on her.
