It depends on the species of shark and how sustainable it is. The problem is a lot take years to reach breeding age and only produce a small number of off spring. But other are abundant even reaching pest level in some areas.
It's not true that only the fin is edible, the meat of many can be eaten but in a lot it tastes of ammonia.
The meat plus the liver is a good source of fish oil. Shark's don't have bones so you won't choke on one either
Not more than any other animal. If I were to separate animals into more or less worthy it would be based on their intelligence (especially emotional). Hence I don't think eating dogs is more unethical than eating pigs... it's just weird if you happen to own one as a pet at the same time.
If they are endangered absolutely. But it’s no different than eating fish if their not.
However isn’t most of the shark inedible anyway? Only the liver can be consumed? I believe they excrete waste through their skin. So eating shark is like eating a delicacy?
No. Not only did the jerk-face eat a bunch of people, but he was also somehow able to coax a two-hour so-called "innovative classic" movie with increasingly disastrous sequels.
Forks out, chumps! It's dinner time.

As long as the whole animal is mostly eaten, I have no issue. I do have an issue where they just harvest the fin and throw the animal back. That's mostly because the fin does not regrow and usually the shark dies shortly afterwards. (So a large net waste)
Not really, since they are wild caught and most shark species aren't threatened, I'd say it is among the more ethical meats to eat.
Except it's really bad for your health since shark meat is among the most contaminated with heavy metals due to their diet and size.
Not inherently. I imagine it'd be difficult to raise them commercially, but difficult ist't impossible, and it could bebione sustainably.
Which kind of makes be wonder why no one's doing it with horseshoe crabs...
There’s sustainable ways of eating sharks. I’m against catching them, cutting off their fins and tossing them back in the ocean. But there’s ways to regulate how many sharks and what kind/age of shark to catch. Like with lobster, they have to be over a certain size so they have several opportunities to breed, and breeding females tails are marked so other people know that it’s a breeding lobster. Do the same with sharks, have some scientists figure out what’s best
I’ve read some Japanese fishermen cut the fins off sharks while they’re alive and toss them back into the water. So yeah, that way sure it’s unethical.
Not if you eat most of it. If you only eat the fin and throw them back in dying it's unethical.
At the moment yes. We’re pillaging the ocean at a rate far exceeding sustainability and shark populations are in worse shape than most
NOTHING unethical in consuming any animal... that given the opportunity, would eat you!
Were you AWARE that some species of sharks actually consume THEIR siblings IN THE WOMB!!!
THAT, is 'cold'!
So do humans. Left handed people are the surviving twin
What are the ethical standards at issue here? Shark doesn’t make it onto many menus where I live, so I don’t really have much experience with the matter.
Only if the shark feels it unethical to eat humans!
In other words. no. I still wouldn't eat it though.
I love shark and alligator when I go to Florida though I have not been down there in a long time. Don't knock it until you try it
I think that it's fine. I just HATE the shark fin ''industry, that treats these animals in a very cruel way.
Kill it - eat it.
But don't just chop off pieces and leave the shark to die.
No. There are plenty of sharks in the sea. The ongoing pollution of the oceans is a far bigger concern than catching and eating a few sharks.
In fact there are more GW's off the coast than there have been for generations.
Sharks don't think it's unethical to eat us! Turnabout's fair play!
More sharks are killed by humans than humans are by sharks. You're more likely to be killed by fido than you are a shark. So go eat fido.
@BlackBeauty90 Me & Fido will sit on the beach and watch you swim with a school of sharks.
@FunkyMonkee - as long as I am not bleeding & don't thrash around I'm safer with the sharks than you are with fido. Sharks follow only certain instincts to attack. Fido can go from happy to ripping your throat out simply because you're nervous.
@BlackBeauty90 Wanna bet? I've had dogs all my life!! At least 12 (not including Sammi's 7 puppies), I've been close to numerous other dogs. So far, I've had ONE guard dog bite my ankle while I was riding my bike across an area I probably shouldn't have been in. Of all the dogs I've owned, only one had to be shot because some asshole dog catcher needed to fill his quota, came to our back gate, called Dixie over and he grabbed her and took her away!! At one point, he hit her in the head with a gun which caused her to go mad. The only other bad experience I've had with dogs is that my sister's dog started biting people that picked him up, a friends dog would get so excited to see me she'd start peeing while wagging his tail and the piss would get flung all over the place off her tail, one of my fiance's 3 dogs loved me so much that she'd run circles around me for 10:00 as soon as I set foot in her apartment and I couldn't even get close enough to hug or kiss my girlfriend and, her third dog was so much in love with me that, if I sat down somewhere, she'd start humping my leg like a boy dog and even came on my leg a few times!!
Dog's LOVE me!! I've been with dogs that a lot of people were scared to death of and those dogs treated ME like royalty!! They can just TELL that I'm someone that'd be great for them to hang out with!!
In the meantime, I've seen divers go into shark-infested waters and, if they weren't in that metal cage at the time, those sharks would've had an easy lunch!! Go ahead and try it without the cage, sometime! Let's see how well you do.
I'll gladly put my nearly 60 years with dogs up against your swimming with sharks for 15:00, IF you last that long!!
@BlackBeauty90 Go fuck yourself, you stupid cunt!! Give me video of YOU swimming with sharks!!
No, but SHE is!
@FunkyMonkee - how am I a troll when stating facts? Hmmm...
More than 800,000 people per year report requiring medical attention for their dog bites
https://petkeen.com/dog-bite-statistics/
The 2021 worldwide total of 73 confirmed unprovoked cases (of shark bites)
www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/.../
Come back when you have a brain.
There were 11 shark-related fatalities this year 2021
In 2020, 46 people were killed by dogs
lmao you proved her point. You got bit by a dog before a shark
@MrNameless Yeah, A dog! It only nipped at my ankle. What about the dozens of others I've hung around with or owned? NONE of them EVER bit me!!
No more unethical than eating reindeer or fin whale.
I don't, just like it's not unethical to eat a cow or a salmon or a trout
Depends on their conservation status. However you don't want to eat predators, because they concentrate pollution from the environment.
They love cutting off the fins off
The Chinese were under hot water for that
Save the sharks
I didn't know you could.
If you're going to ask if it's unethical to eat a shark (an animal), then why not just ask if it's unethical to eat any animal, ya know, like vegetarians and vegans
However, to answer your question though, as a meat eater myself, no I don't think it's unethical. I know vegetarians who have actually gone back to eating meat because they missed it too much
Is just weird to me. I wouldn't eat shark. I feel the same about frog's legs. I would never do it.
