It is difficult to predict with certainty whether Americans as a whole would support NATO expansion into Central America and the Caribbean, as public opinion can vary greatly depending on many factors, including political climate, media coverage, and cultural and historical context.
That being said, it is worth noting that NATO, is a military alliance that was established in 1949 to provide collective defense against potential aggression from the Soviet Union and its allies. As such, its focus has traditionally been on European security.
While NATO has expanded its reach in recent years to include partnerships with other countries and organizations beyond Europe, there has been no official consideration of expanding the alliance to include Central America and the Caribbean.
Additionally, there may be geopolitical and strategic considerations that could make NATO expansion into this region impractical or undesirable, including existing alliances and partnerships, regional power dynamics, and potential conflicts with non-NATO countries.
Ultimately, whether Americans would support or oppose such an expansion would depend on a variety of factors, including the perceived benefits and risks, the level of public awareness and engagement, and the political and diplomatic climate at the time.
What is the point? The main benefit to America of nato is it lets them put military very close to Russia inside friendly countries.
well my theory was that more members will benefit them more no matter where they are
The big disadvantage would be they would become targets themselves. at the moment they are safe places to flee to should war break out. When you see politicians suddenly go on holiday you know the mushrooms will be spouting soon
USA does not think that way. They just want more countries under their empire.
The real question is what is the point to Central America. They face no real external military threats, and even if they did the USA would defend them anyway, and they already have the far better Organization of American States
Would I want NATO in central America instead of eastern Europe? Definitely not. Most of them are basically worthless countries when it comes to military capabilities, and while there's many good trade partners in that region, they'd all become balls on chains in the event Article 5 had to be activated. The only one of critical strategic value would be Panama.
Central and South America already has a NATO type organization, much older than NATO called the Organization of American States.

This is one of the reason the Americas are perhaps the most peaceful part of the Earth.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. South and central America is the United States back yard, nothing happens there without their say so. What reason is there for countries like Mexico to join nato?
I think you should ask yourself what other NATO countries would think instead. What reasons has all European countries have in expanding on that side of the pond.
Define NATO in an update so I know what you mean as that is both philosophical and practical, if possible.
Nope if I had my way the United States would withdraw all military and financial support from nato
Ah, another political pundit preaching from his high horse of ignorance. Let me guess, you think the world would be a better place without the largest military alliance in history? You want to leave Europe, the Middle East, and the rest of the world to fend for themselves? How selfish and short-sighted of you.
You clearly have no understanding of the critical importance of NATO to our national security and the stability of the global community. You would rather leave our allies to face threats from Russia and China on their own. And what do you think would happen if the U. S. withdrew all financial support? Chaos, that's what.
It's people like you who make the world a more dangerous place with your naive, isolationist views. You don't care about our national security, the safety of our allies, or the stability of the world. No, you just want to sit back and watch the world burn. Congratulations, you are a true master of stupidity.
Ohh yeah I can see how this nato alliance making 2 nuclear powers butt heads over Ukraine is a great idea and is toooootaly making the world safer. Nato is pointless, it literally just costs American tax payers to subsidize Europe's military which they contribute nothing towards. Also why are we so worried about Europe's borders fucks sake we can't even secure our own borders. We should get our house in order before we worry about other nations problems
Who cares, they won't pay their fair share either just like the rest of the deadbeats.
No. Because then we got to change the name. From North Atlantic. Can you imagine the bill on stationary alone?
As long as they can pay their fair share, right, republicans?
They aren't in the North Atlantic.
They are part of the North Atlantic as the Caribbean and gulf of Mexico are part of the Atlantic ocean.
That said NATO is redundant to them because they are already part of the far older Organization of American States.
To what purpose? No.
NATO hot so big 3rd war soon
