If you survive you will face nuclear fallout, radiative dust particles carried by the wind, contaminated water, radioactive black rain, radioactive snow, contaminated drinking water, contaminated food, desertification of the land, the blocking out of the sun, possibly depletion of the ozone so more harmful UV radiation from the sun, freezing conditions, famine, disease, drought, possible nuclear "summer" instead of winter, climate change sparking extreme weather such as tornadoes, hurricanes or tsunamis. Them even if you do survive radiation sickness, tumors and cancers can occur to kill you if not right away, months or years later. Then there's reproductive problems. Even if you do decide to have kids in a post WW3 world you may actually be infertile due to the radiation, many men may actually end up impotent as an after effect. And if you do have kids your genes may be so damaged that your kids are born with deformaties, physical or mental disabilities. You may wish you died in the nuclear fire.

I think with Ukraine and China we are looking at Cold War 2 rather than World War 3.

Why would you assume nuclear war would happen? I actually think there's a very small chance nukes ever get used at scale, ever

If it comes to a fight with two powers who have intercontinental ballistic missles ots very possible as during the cold war its what each side prepared to do and there were some close calls.

What they would have to do is assassinate whoever launches the nukes/the president at the same time. Cause total confusion among the us government. And then launch the attack

That is a possible plan but there are many contingencies for that. For instance with the US even if you get the first strike in and destroy us bunkers the us still has nukes in hardened missle silos as well as nuclear submarines.
