Most churches use most of their money either in the community or in the mission field. If we tax them, there's less work they're doing in the community and around the world. There will be an immediate cost in those areas -- and those are areas where typically the social safety nets don't cover.
Church property should be taxed, same as any other commercial property. Church's income from the collection plate should not be taxed, however their income from investments should be taxed at capital rates.

Yes. Otherwise, they should be audited and the result be shown to public.
Those private jets and luxury vehicles and mansions better be on that audit.

If they're run as a business, yes. If they're run as a charity, no. I do not consider Scientology a charity.
