Why are white Americans rarely called European Americans but black people are commonly called African Americans?

@OatmealMuffin It's some black people too, but for the most part, you're right. There was a Cuban author who came to give a talk at our university, and she asked permission to use the word "black " and these two black girls in the audience started laughing.
I visited a plantation home in Barbados and one of the guides was also laughing at the term "African-American".

The term "African-American" is beyond stupid. There are 195 countries in the world, so why can't we just call Americans, Americans? (Yes, I get that Africa is a continent, but that doesn't matter)

I don't even want Democrats paying them. Why should they get reparations they don't deserve. It will only encourage more free loading. However, if they can prove they were a slave, then I'll write the check myself. But President Monroe already created a whole new country in West Africa for them as reparations, and 90% of them chose not to utilize it.

Because most Americans are mixed race and not "European". Nor are they "Native Americans". Thus neither fish nor fowl, and all that.

As for Blacks, nearly all of them were of African slave stock who were freed from slavery. But many South Americans in America are dark skinned, but not African.

Because most white Americans are proud of who they are. This is our identity. Most black people (understandably) feel the system doesn't work for them the same as white people. So therefore they call themselves African Americans to denote that they didn't immigrate to the United States in search of a better life. And that the name is appropriate until the struggle is complete until they get thier fair and equal OPPORTUNITY same as white people.
