Every article on the topic basically says "homosexuality (as in, simply being gay and not merely making a public display of it) will be criminalized". Being that a good number of these articles are Western in origin and we are heavily LGBTQ+-invested, it is possible that this is true OR it is equally plausible that it is merely being highly sensationalized. After all, it has long been the case that journalistic ethics go out the window whenever there is a quick buck to be made. Nothing gets views like headlines/news articles that enflame tensions as opposed to revealing the truth of the matter.

Let's assume that the harshest elements of these articles are true, which is to say "if you are discovered to be homosexual, you will be jailed simply for existing". Is this a good thing? In my humble opinion, no, it is not. In theory, we can say that "simply being gay is not a criminal act, because what two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home is up to them and them alone. Nobody is criminalizing your thoughts." In the real world, where people actually live, anyone who has ever experienced a sexual impulse (so, basically, everyone who is not ace) would agree that, on closer examination, this is utter nonsense. The fact of the matter is, sexuality requires a third party.

Even in sexual fantasy, there is no such thing as "sexual attraction to the idea of sexual attraction", i. e. being horny just because. There is always a subject of the interest, even in the abstract. A gay male will necessarily fantasize about the idea of sexual activity with another man, not just "being gay" generally. To suggest sexual orientation can occur independent of other people is fiction of the highest order--unless we're talking about bestiality, but that's a red herring and thus not relevant, since we're talking about humans. So, when straight people say "you can still be gay, just don't talk about it", they are speaking out of both sides of their mouth and they know it, even if unconsciously.

Which is to say, criminalizing LGBTQIA+ (as an aside, if we keep adding letters to this alphabet soup, we're gonna need an acronym for the acronym, because it is basically an unpronounceable word at this point) as simple as eliminating the capacity to engage or even raise the topic, regarding one's non-straight orientation, in a civilized manner, without being arrested. If straight people were suddenly jailed just for talking about how attractive the opposite sex is, they'd come to this realization right quick. However, perhaps this is not what Uganda is doing and all of this speculation is misplaced. It is very easy to be an activist behind a keyboard. It is very different altogether to live whatever reality they and all other East African nations are dealing with.

Congratulations to them. A good chunk of Africa is rebelling against the West and its "values," expect to see more things like that.

But in the case of Uganda, the scummy mafia called the US government is using the excuse that Ugandans are "homophobic" because the country has gold deposits worth $12 trillion... So they conveniently need "freedom & democracy."

You're not hearing our media bash less fortunate countries like Mali or Zimbabwe, guess why...

Good for them. Never allow any foreign power bully you into changing your laws or challenging your sovereignty. The United States are never "told off" by any other nation despite everyone having opinions about their internal matters, but the US government thinks it can just bully other people into submission with regards to their own laws and policies. They think they are the world police.

Degeneracy should have no place in any society, so I'm with them on that. May be the west can learn a thing or two from them.

It's been illegal for years! I don't know why people are saying this is a new policy. Black counties have a history of homophobia. It's stupid because you can't choose to be gay, but I agree with making public displays of homosexuality illegal.

Aslong as they have open borders for those people to cross out of, it's really not a issue. at least it stop government from funding these crazy projects. West should let these people manage themselves and not give them special treatment. Ie not forbid it, but simply not funding it and it will basically be none existant. Stop wasting our common economy on pampering mental illness.

It might not be as stern as media makes it out to be, and that the type of leftists who use arguments like "it doesn't affect you" to shut down arguments they don't like will probably bitch about this even thought a lot or most of them don't live in Uganda themself.

May be you don't understand where I was coming from, so allow me to elaborate.

This man is racist. I was telling to basically show us where he stands, which using the n word is the ultimate example of that. I don't like passive aggressive behavior, be a man and own up to your opinion. Liberals like to have this paternalistic behavior about themselves when it comes to Black folks like they think they know better. That's the context behind what I said.

I'm not sure if you cosign what he said by saying Africans are more offended by being called ignorant than the n word, so you will need to explain that.

Did you seriously compare the n word with cracker? Now that I know who I'm dealing with, my response is not gonna be very kind.

YOUR ancestors invented BOTH words. N*gger and cracker were BOTH invented by white people. Also, no white person was called cracker before they were lynched, castrated or raped. You seriously think you can make this foolish argument that n word doesn't mean anything because to you the word cracker doesn't affect you? Let's get things straight, we are NOT the same. That word isn't a playground insult, it has a history of 400 years attached to it and you think it's not offensive. Who gave you the license to decide that it isn't? Who gave you that agency? You're not a Black man, do you really think you can make a decision on our behalf? Are you seriously that dumb?

You're right about one thing though, the word cracker is not offensive because it was not only created by those whom its used against, but it also doesn't hit them the same way considering that they haven't walked a mile in our shoes.

You are no different than the other dude. Thanks for showing yourself.

"I'm just saying people give that word too much power".

You must not be that smart if you think that context doesn't matter. If I called you an idiot without having done anything else to you, then you wouldn't care. If I taunted you, beat you, hunted you down, abused you and nearly killed you while calling you an idiot every time I did so, you're gonna associate that word with your trauma. THAT'S how racial slurs are created, they are a SLUR "trauma" that are race-specific. The context is what gives it power, not the people. 400 years of history behind one word, of course it holds a lot of power.

Once again, your lack of knowledge is showing. I don't know if you're doing this or purpose, or if you genuinely don't know what you're talking about.

"If it offends them then they shouldn't act like N words" that right there tells me everything I need to know.

What do you really know about generational wealth? Do you seriously believe that people spending money on sneakers is the reason why poverty exists in the Black world? That has to be the dumbest answer I received on this portal in my 6 years here.

Everyone knows wealth can be created in many ways, the easiest of which is real estate. If you own property, you have wealth. If you own a home with a decent value, you pay higher property taxes = access to better schools (since they are sustained through property tax) = your children have better education = easier to get into college = higher paying job = next generation keeps the old house but can also buy a new one and the cycle repeats itself. Moreover, white people generally receive better loans, even if a Black person has good credit score. That means they have to settle for lower value homes in cheaper areas with not as much maintenance, the schools are bad and the education sucks so it's more difficult to get into uni unless it's an HBCU (which are underfunded as well) or an athletic scholarship program to a PWI, where very few manage to get in.

Now I explained all of this, and it's still gonna fly over your head because your intentions are not genuine. You have already formed your opinion about Black people and arguing with you isn't gonna go anywhere. You didn't even read the first point I wrote, so I'm just gonna start skimming over your answers in the same way unless you show you are serious about this debate.

I will answer your previous question. How can we be offended by a word that doesn't apply to us? It doesn't have to apply, because no matter what we do we're always seen as N words by you people. My parents are both pharmacists and I'm a med student, yet we catch HELL from some of those Karens living in our neighborhood. Now if that's our experience as an upper middle class family, lord knows what other Black folks have to deal with from your people. No amount of gaslighting you do is going to change that fact.

That's not discrimination. Discrimination is someone asking you if you live in your neighborhood or wanting to see your papers without having any authority to do so. Discrimination is someone threatening to call 911 on you for simply mowing your lawn in your own property for being "too loud" when they are loud themselves, and you have no control over the lawn mower sound. Discrimination is being followed around in stores.

You just want to be a victim. Calling out your racism is not racism, it's the truth. Like I said, this is my experience. There are people that have it MUCH worse. You want to gaslight us into thinking that white people have a "few bad apples" rather than being a dysfunctional group when history and present day events tell us otherwise.

You have way more privilege and opportunity than your ancestors and so do white people be grateful

I don't care if my issues are bigger or not than others. If they want solutions, they should fight their own fight to fix it. These dumb deflection tactics do not work.

The only person playing victim here is YOU. You said I was "discriminating against white people" as a reversal maneuver after I told you what we go through on a near daily basis. Also, my PARENTS are the one's asked if they own the property, who tf would ask a 21 year old if they have possession over anything? It affects the whole family's mood, especially when my younger siblings are around. You don't seem to be the brightest, do you?

My "privilege" was a hard fought success on my dad's end. He didn't group up in the best neighborhood and was an outstanding student that defied all odds. He made this happen, and he paid helped my mother pay her student loans. You have no idea what you're rambling on about son. He was in pharmacy school back in the 80s during the war on drugs and he has a lot of stories from back then that I don't even wanna get into. You cannot walk a mile in his shoes, but you wanna lecture me about being "ungrateful". Everything you have is through unearned privilege. I fought my way into med school and I'm lucky that my parents can afford my education through good financial management.

There are THOUSANDS of people who didn't grow up under the same circumstances due to what I explained about the quality of education in BLACK neighborhoods a few posts back.

One more thing. You wanna think very carefully when you say "other people were oppressed so you should deal with it" because you're getting into an argument of morality vs reality. If you say that whatever is happening right now should happen anyway because it's the course of nature, then you lose EVERY RIGHT to complain about what I say in regards to white folks or any other group for that matter. If everything is fair game, then you also cosign murder and violence because "life is unfair" right? Even if someone runs you over and gets away with it, don't try to bring fight for it, just accept it because "life is unfair". That logic can be used to justify every evil doing that was done. If you wanna go there, we can go there no problem. However, I'm gonna have to ask you to stop complaining about me "generalizing your race" because you don't care about what's right or wrong.

@Datboi65 first off realizing that life is unfair is as real as it gets those with power dominate those without survival of the fittest is the natural order
Violence will happen but you also need to understand that no one gets away with anything life is unfair but karma is a bitch

And also that word wouldn’t offend you if you didn’t consider yourself to be one

So you're indirectly calling me the n word. "That word won't offend you if you don't consider yourself one" is a smart-ass way to call Black people the n word because MAJORITY OF US ARE OFFENDED BY IT. Nobody considers themselves a racial slur, you sound dumb. People say it to you regardless of what you think of yourself, and I'm not gonna let that slide if I hear it.

If you wanna go with this "survival of the fittest" mentality, then screw law and order. Why don't we just dominate each other and see who wins? What's stopping us from committing genocide? Like I said, do NOT complain about the "high crime rate in Black neighborhoods" if that's your logic. All is fair game, even if you get robbed then I will tell you to suck it up because "life is unfair". Don't have arguments about morality, stay out of it.

I worded that part of "morality vs reality" poorly, I meant to say vs survivalist mentality. There are those of us who wouldn't think twice before running into a burning building to save others trapped inside, and then there are others who would run out without at least calling for help, causing others to die in the process. You seem to be the latter.

@Datboi65 funny hearing someone from a group of people who don’t even stick together with most of their children coming from broken homes, Highest abortion rate than any other group, and blk boys reading at a 4th grade level talk about dominating anyone they can’t even get their own houses in order

So that's the only thing you got from my answer? That's good to see where we stand. It's people like yourself who would be responsible if a race war ever occurs.

They can still be gay just keep it to themselves behind closed doors where sexual orientation should be because it’s no one’s business but their own

Why do gays need to be married when they can just be together

Marriage can only between a man and a woman because both of them together creates a family and a big purpose of marriage is to create the best possible environment to raise offspring

No one is saying they don’t have the right to be together

You sound like a little kid because marriage isn’t about love it is not a Disney movie

Marriage is a sacred ceremony for men and women and gays getting married shows the little to no reverence society has for marriage
