If you have power should you be held to a higher standard?
Thoughts?
I think cops should be held to a higher standard.
Elites, in general are never held to the same standards as poor people.
And when was a CEO or executive of a corporation ever held personally responsible for destroying the lives of thousands.
Politicians should be subject to the same laws that they impose on everyone else, but they aren't. It's "laws for thee but not for me."
The problem with holding politicians accountable is, their job is to lie. It's their job description. Who would hold them accountable, their fellow crooked politicians?
Government secrecy, national security, protecting the "people's" confidence in government... bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.
Was Bill Clinton ever deeply investigated for or indited for being a coke head or running coke for the CIA when he was governor of Arkansas?
Was there are deep investigation of Dubya's drug use and other shenanigans or being AWOL from the Air National Guard?
Was there ever an investigation of the Clinton Foundation for being a money laundering operation or for grabbing girls from Haiti for we all know what?
What about Joe Biden's miscreant son's missing laptop and criminal activity. How is that investigation going?
Will Hillary every be fully investigated or prosecuted for her crimes as Secretary of State and destruction of evidence?
It's naive to think that virtually every politician isn't guilty of covering up crimes. And the more important the politician, the greater the crimes.
Would a Royal ever be subjected to a full blown investigation?
And if this question is a reference to Trump's heinous crime of paying hush money to a whore he had sex with ten years before he thought about running for president, all I can do is laugh. This nothing but political assassination of the most absurd variety.
After six years of inventing one fake scandal after another to take Trump out, including the Steele Dossier, this silly nonsense about paying extortion money to a whore is blatantly political.
As a former Democratic voter, I realized years ago that the party is completely, 110% corrupt and despicable to the core. If they say something, I assume the opposite.
Trump will never serve a day of prison time. And this charade will probably increase his chances of winning against whatever buffoon the Democrats run in 2024.
Absolutely true. A matter of displaying a good example. On the other hand this may lead to a high degree of hypocrisy, because we're just humans. And who will judge about particular actions having no real connection with a person's competence in their job? Just think about the fact that former presidents, Clinton and Trump, have issues because of some ridiculous sexual adventures...
In the case of Clinton I guess some people wanted him to resign and didn't find anything else than a silly blowjob. Trump is another fox with probably lot's of questionable activities, but attacking him on behalf of an escort? Ridiculous. He probably commited far more serious offenses than behaving as a spoiled child and asking a prostitute to keep her mouth shut, even if he paid her with money not meant for that.
PS: no offense meant to anyone. Things are far more complicated, and the truth thus never black or white. By the way, I remember a sentence pronounced in Star Wars: "never trust a politician"...
Yes, not only those in power, but those in public service should be held to higher standards - at the rank and file level, they usually are.
Absolutely. Like when President Bill Clinton commit perjury he should have been jailed for 3 months.

there already is , the legal term is " Prudent man rule " for joe blows and the Prudent professional rule, what is called as " Fiduciary rule " . But the problem as always is the interpretation and will to back it up. But this takes the cake, if you are caught with a gram of coke , you are just having a nice time and may get a ticket ( it's the rich man's drug) . But if u are caught with half a gram of crack, u will be bitch slapped and put in the slammer, ( its the poor man's drug ). The truth is Coke is a much more purer form of cocaine and ur crime is really worse. Man, you don't know what you go through when you have long hair and tattoos and torn jeans etc. You really learn that the cops are pigs the hard way. I've seen both sides of it. When you are in a suit and all slick and in a european sports car and shit, the cops are intimated and on their toes, what cocksuckers. But I guess the whole world is like that, we are all a bunch of ass licking cunt fucks who fall for the sizzle rather than the steak.
yes, but no
held to a higher standard while in office, sure.
held to a higher standard before they got there... um... kinda messed up. can you imagine how most people on gag get flammed for what they say, do, etc.. if they decide to run for office?
I do think the bible solves this.. be honest, confess your sins, make amends. it's basic humanity. As well, if people make amends, Im ok putting them into powerful roles. But ya don't leave people in power whom have succumbed to faults.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/Wx3NKRIeR94If you work in a school around kids you need to be held to a higher standard. Same with coaches.
The people that really. Need to behave are actors and musicians and also pro athletes. These people have the ability to be serious role models for kids. Instead they shirk that responsibility and just act like assholes.
Ideally I think they should be held accountable for their actions, and if you have power, sometimes those actions have a larger effect than if you didn't have power, and in those cases the rewards or punishments should reflect that. I wouldn't really call it holding them to a higher standard though.
The trouble with changing the "Standard" is really just changing the law. If you have 2 different sets of laws for different people, then invariably the people making (or enforcing) said laws will advantage themselves.
You cannot hold them to a "higher" standard when it they who define both standards.
@goaded Al Franken resigned so democrats could temporarily pretend to hold a standard to win a far more senate senate.
Democrats never before held that standard and still don't hold it today as demonstrated by electing and retaining Joe Biden.
But this is par for the course for the media party to set phony standards when advantageous only to abandon them as soon as its not advantageous.
@goaded Al Franken had a democratic governor who would simply have replaced him with anther democrat.
Whereas setting a hypothetical standard to fail Roy Moore in Alabama was the only way democrats would get Alabama's seat until the next election.
You may not remember this but Roy Moore, a former supreme court justice of Alabama lost his election bid to a democrat on the account of accusations he may have dated an underage girl 30+ years before.
This from the same democratic party that elected Joe Biden a man who showered with his niece and routinely inappropriately touches underage girls. As mentioned media party (Democrat) standards are only temporary and exist to give them short term political advantage. They are abandoned shortly thereafter.
@goaded Democrats never can see anything that doesn't fit their agenda, even if its in plain view on publicly available photographs
Yes. Unfortunately the opposite is usually true, where the powerful walk free and the little people get time for the same offense.
I’d settle for them to be held to the same standard as regular people. As it is, they get away with shit all the time and are held to a much lower standard. It makes me smile when one of them is finally held accountable.
I agree! Police officers, politicians and judges should get at least twice the punishment as regular people if convicted of a crime.
Not stay in a plush vacation resort jail or just a slap on the wrist.
You're confused about the difference between honesty and integrity, then.
No, that's not justice. Justice is everyone is held equally to the same standards of punishment under the law if they are guilty of a crime.
This is why you live in the UKnand not America. Thank goodness.
Those with great power hold great responsibility
Very true
yes always
Yes higher standards
i like to be praised
