What is interesting in this cathedral is that the first king of France was baptized here.

According to the legend a holy bulb brought by a dove had come to crown Clovis.

For this reason, France is the very Kingdom of God, the enemies of France are the enemies of Christ. [...] The kingdom of France is above all other peoples, crowned by God himself with extraordinary prerogatives. The tribe of Judah was the anticipatory figure of the kingdom of France."

Quite magnificent. It was a disappointment that Riems was yet another place I could not get in my brief visit. Anything reaching back to the late 400's AD would be on my bucket list.

When did French monarchs cease being crowned there?

Ah! Since Napoleon was crowned at Notre Dame I assumed Reims had been displaced much earlier. That is quite special a tradition from 400's to 1825. I did get to see the cathedral where Holy Roman Emperors were crowned on a later work trip but it was highly disappointing.

My ancestors Christians in France in the 1500 hundreds and had to escape France and go to England.

Where they Huguenots? England tended to recruit trades as well so do you know what your escaping forebears did for a living?

It's fine architecture better looking than most buildings I find the religious part kinda silly but good art is good art
