The Guinness world record for the longest golf shot is 515 yards. That's insane- almost a third of a mile. But it's not ridiculous.

It's also the only one I'm aware of where "world record" doesn't cover everything, because of those two shots Alan Shepard hit on the moon. That's interesting.

What's ridiculous is that those two shots only went 24 and 40 yards, respectively- because, despite the 5/6ths lower gravity, the total lack of air resistance made them go LESS distance: golf balls are designed to work with air, and don't go as far when in a vacuum.

I'm not 100% certain this is a fact, because it's so strange and hard to believe, but apparently we still haven't figured out why the moon appears larger the closer it is to the horizon. I would have guessed that it would have something to do with how the light being reflected by the moon has to travel through a thicker layer of the atmosphere to reach us, compared to when it's higher up in the sky, and because of this the atmosphere itself acts like a convex lens and magnifies the image.
