My art tutor lived in Japan and he says suicidal rates among children is higher there than in other places because the parents put crazy pressure on the children to earn money and outperform their peers academically. I’m not Japanese but I’m East Asian and I was not allowed to drink water during math competitions in high school because it cut into my performance time.
