The problem with these historical hero figures is they all rose to power thanks to belonging to and powerful families. To them war was little more than entertainment, a game to be played with the lives of the lower classes. The fact is peoples lives had little value to these men.

I think about history but no, I don’t wish historical figures were here today. They were products of their time period and already served their historical purpose. Today’s world would be completely foreign to them and they wouldn’t be suited to living in it, just as we would be a fish out of water in 1776.

Washington, Adams, Jefferson, etc.

Those men were from a time when it never occurred to people "all men are created equal" should include women, or blacks. From a time when "freedom of religion" meant freedom of *christian* religions. From a time when a ship of the line with a hundred cannons firing 24 pound shot was the ultimate weapon. When voting had to be done by electors because it wasn't practical to collect and count everyone's votes.
