Why do people keep missing previous generations, stuck on the old days?

Honestly the old days was no better either. It still had its disadvantages and bad things still happened.

No year is ever perfect and will never be. So why are the sudden commotion about missing the old days and wishing things were like that? The modern world also has good things too.

The 1990s seemed like an economic boom. It was easy to get a job, things were attainable, the future looked bright but then came the dot com bubble burst and that's when everything really changed... It was just a bubble before a very long protracted recession, war, and a lot of bullshit. The 2000 dot com bubble burst was followed by 9/11 and war, then the 2008 Great Recession which saw massive housing loss and bank crashes, then there were mass layoffs due to Obamacare mandates which required health insurance in 2014 for employment. Trump started to turn things back around and then a bioweapon was released on the world and COVID-19 lock-downs occurred in 2020 crashing the economy again which was followed by Biden stagflation. All of this economic turmoil back to back has lead to massive job insecurity. As a result a third of the workforce is not participating. They are demoralized and have given up. That is worse than the Great Depression, but modern marketing plays it down like nothing is really happening. During the Great Depression there were only a couple years where unemployment reach 30%. Most of the Great Depression saw only 10% of the population out of work. So needless to say, it's been a pretty dark couple of decades. Trump is again turning it around, but you can't fix decades of damage in a couple months.

It all really started back in 1913 with Woodrow Wilson and has gotten progressively worse over the years in stages, but the attempted death blow has happened in recent years. The only thing blocking that is MAGA.

If Italy not broke don't fix it is a strong instinct. At the same time you don't know something is broken till it's better is just as strong.

I like the historical analysis not nessesity to preserve it but to raid it for ideas.

I think there's two reasons. First people remember their childhood not reality. They remember a care free world skipping barefoot in the meadows and not the struggles their parents faced.

Secondly cinema concentrates on those having a great time. Most people weren't having a swinging time in the swinging 20s or having drug fuelled orgies in the 70s, the Victorian days were not like on Christmas cards, nor dod most people indulge in Georgian splendor.

People just think about the good things about the old days. I remember playing outside until the streetlights came on. Riding my bile around town without a helmet and leaving the cars in the driveway with the keys in it.

Simplicity, people used to be more social and mingle with relatives, friends, neighbors etc. there were lot of time for oneself and for others. Now time flies quick. Though technology is advance today.
