Are women needed for society to function?

I've heard so many people say men are needed but not women. But I'd say both are needed. YES WE NEED MEN! But we also need women. Women are most of the caretakers, we raise children and children are our future. Most nurses and teachers are also women and they are needed too..

OBS! Am talking outside of mating for children...

Try to look at it like this...

Some form of human has been living on Earth for about 2 million years with civilization being about 12000 years old.

During almost all of that time, life on Earth was hard for humans. So many different ways to easily be killed. It had to have been scary as shit.

And, to women, even scarier since they have to worry about their kids both caring and protecting themselves and their kids.

Now, during all that time and even today, females have been the more selective sex. They have to be; eggs are priceless and finite, sperm is cheap and infinite. So women are the ones who chose with whom to mate more than the other way around. And so women have chosen for various desirable traits and those are the traits that get passed on. For instance, women like taller men because, instinctively, more height = more size = better protection. Similarly, women have selected men with other desirable traits too... intelligence, curiosity, and so forth. In short, women have been the architects of human evolution.

Now I want you to think about a house. What's the purpose of a house? A house is place to make a home, raise kids, and be protected from harm from everything else in the world.

So, if you think about it in the abstract, almost the entire history of our species, especially since the advent of civilization about 12000 years ago, has been turning the world from a frightening, dangerous, chaotic place into a house - a safe place to live.

And, for the most part, humans have succeeded. We are reasonably safe from almost all natural threats that 12000 years ago would have killed us easily. We are now the dominant species on Earth, have spread over the entire planet, and are mostly safe now with our greatest threat being ourselves and our own success.

In short, we've built a house for our species.

Now, a house involves two stages: Building it and then, once it's built, living in it.

So, who built this house of ours - our civilization?

In all that time, it was men - the men created by women through selection and evolution - to be the "carpenters" of this house. The traits that women have sculpted men to have was to be those carpenters of the house that is our world now.

But now the house is built.

We don't carpenters anymore. Sure, our species and women in particular needed men to have the traits that women selected to build our house, but many of those same traits are problematic with keeping the house from falling apart. You need a saw to build a house, but once the house is built, the bored carpenter can't go around sawing parts of the house out of boredom...

And now we've come full-circle.

The house is move-in ready. We can now make it the home that women instinctively want and need so they can raise their kids in health and safety relatively free from the worries of Nature and free from the stress that comes with worrying.

But the problem now is men. Our male traits were spectacular for building our house but it came with violence and other "unfeminine" traits which are not good for the home.

To sum up, men were needed for the past 2+ million years. They built the home. Now they need to change from being builders to being maintainers of the home and help women run that home as their instincts are best at doing.

The change is already taking place. You can see it especially over the last 50 years. This is one reason why you increasingly see women in positions of authority and prominence and the Manosphere is complaining. "Men can't be men" they complain, and they want women to be what they were. To a degree, they are right because they are evolved to function as carpenters - as the sex that built the house that is our world. The problem for them is that, for the most part, the house/world is built, but the traits women have - better communication, more cooperation and less competition, more sharing, etc. - are the better traits to have to safely keep our home/world running.

nah men are not needed for society to function. they are expendable and have always been expendable

if the bottom 80% of all men committed suicide, nobody would give a shit. maybe the top 20% of men would be concerned because 80% of that top 20% would soon be on the chopping block themselves

Yes. Both genders are needed. Ignore the men on this site who spout nonsense like that. Many of the cavemen on here are just bitter they're going to die single so it's a barrage of hatred toward us because they need to convince themselves we're all worthless so they can feel better about their loneliness. The whole set of insane archaic standards they have are just to try and absolve themselves of blame for being inadequate.

I can’t help but sigh from the fact that the poll shows 30% voted that only women are needed while 20% voted that only men are needed. It just shows how society thinks as a whole. We must accept that both genders are needed since they both play important roles in every day life.

Men and women are both needed for the survival of the human species. Women are needed to reproduce and to nurture and raise children. Men are needed to keep modern society functioning.

However, if we remove procreation from the equation, strictly speaking women are not required for society to function, but men are. If all women disappeared tomorrow, men would be unhappy but they would get along just fine. If all men disappeared tomorrow, women and children would literally parish.
