Until they all get voted out of office and lose majority power, it'll be a see-saw "battle" over methodology. The Democrats wish to have direct control using the government itself as "big brother" and the country as a welfare state. But while the Republicans want the same, but they want to use mega-corporations as the shepherd through employment while the government just oversees everything and collects the taxes.

The first part of your question falls under the left wanting control. Fear tactics are a good form of control. Religion uses it all the time. The second part of your query didn't affect me. I was transitioned to work from home, which I still do. I go into the office a half day a week whether I need to be there or not.

The hospital I worked for at the time fired approximately half of its security force the day my States mandate went into effect. A short while later a patient went on the news complaining that their experience resembled a time they were in a 3rd world country medical facility. That hospital went from being in the top 50 hospitals in North America to being an ex Soviet. Hell hole because of that mandate.

Patients and staff were being robbed at gupon leaving the hospital and staff members were being beaten for drugs and the person who did the news story Said that they were not seen for. Over two days after being dumped in a hallway bed without fluids or food because they and they checked in for a heart condition.
