"Collapse" is pretty subjective. The "collapse" of the Roman Empire and the actual end of the Roman legacy were hundreds of years apart from each other, and very much a retrospective observation. Whenever the USA does ultimately fall apart, scholars may try anything from the last time the US had a balanced budget to the abandonment of its Imperial dreams in the 1920s as the turning point or beginning of the end.

If meaning in significant decline by virtually every metric other than land ownership, then he's probably right, but most of that can be turned around; it's not some inevitable demise. Yet.

The biggest problem contributing to what would be undeniable collapse is the national debt, which is so high now that the interest in the debt has either passed up or is about the pass up the total value of the US economy. This is while both parties gleefully hemorrhage money at stupid sh*t with disproportionately low returns. We spend more money per Capita on our military, education, and healthcare than any other country in the world, yet the waste in the military is astronomical to point millions of dollars of food is tossed daily and a single screw on a tank can cost $1000 to replace, our education system is a joke that carries almost no weight on the world stage, and while we are responsible for the overwhelming majority of medical advancements in the world, we actively suppress and screw ourselves because prescription-dependency is more profitable than meaningful cures and permanent fixes while still effectively letting government run what should be a private system by de facto. This is while also propping up dozens of various welfare programs that were designed when most people died 20 years younger that are now unsustainable. What appears to be the softly whispered fix accepted by the ruling class is dystopian feudalism, at best.

There's some stuff Trump is much better at than other candidates, but I don't think any of them can or are willing to "fix" the problem in full, certainly not with enough backing across the board to make it meaningful and not immediately undone either with the next administration, or the next crisis.

no. trump peddles in typical authoritarian fear mongering. if you believe their doomsday notions he spouts then you may be led to believe that he is the only person to 'save' the country.

Trump's comments are meaningless on this and most other issues.

I don't think it'll collapse, but it's going to slowly lose power and influence across the world. America isn't #1 in virtually anything that means much anymore except military spending.
