If the victim of a crime isn’t pressing charges how would there be a trial in the first place?

They saying defendant signed paperwork admitting to it all. The defendant saying he has a learning disability didn’t know what he was even signing was high at the time. So the case is basic off what the defendant and said the victim just got brought into the case recently by the defendant lawyer

I'd believe the evidence presented. I would not automatically believe the victim. There's a reason the police started making domestic violence arrests even when the victim doesn't want to press charges. The victim could be afraid of the victimizer, they could sympathize with them, or make excuses for them. It doesn't mean that they aren't guilty.
