Is the DOJ trying to convict Trump of knowingly lying to sway an election?

For all you arm chair attorneys out there, tell me in layman's terms, what exactly they're charging Trump with.

The text of the indictment is online in various places. The early part states that Trump did have the right to claim the elections were invalid, and to seek legal redress.

What is claimed as illegal is: (I'm abbreviating, its long)

Making false claims of election fraud to cause officials to subvert the elections

Organizing fraudulent slates of electors.

Misuse of the justice department to conduct sham election fraud investigations and urge states to choose fraudlent electors

Attempted to enlist the Vice president to alter the election results

Deceived members of the public into attacking teh capital

In a nut shell, as far as I can tell, they're indicting him for not taking the words of government officials as the "truth" when they said he lost. It IS NOT a crime to knowingly lie to the American people under any circumstance. Even if it involves the results of an election. But! It is a crime to knowingly lie to certain federal law enforcement agencies. So, the DOJ is taking it a step further and trying to say it is a crime to lie to the American people, if the government says it's a lie. I also have a problem with the crime of delaying the certification of the election (Jan. 6 riots) for a few hours. He was never charged with inciting the riots that delayed the certification! How the hell can you charge him for it?

So, if Trump's staff or administration said he lost and Trump tells the American people the election was stolen from him, after he was told he lost, it's not a crime? Also, he told the rioters to go to the Capitol and "fight like hell"! You don't think that incited the riots and is also a crime?

Get "inciting a riot" out of your mind. He wasn't charged with it! So how could he be charged with delaying the certification of the election? Also, Trump is not obligated to believe anyone! If you read the indictment, it's not that Trump didn't listen to his advisors, it's that he didn't listen to the ones that told his advisors that he lost. Which were government officials. I've been prosecuting cases for over 20 years! I would've laughed any ADA out of my office if he brought this briefing to me. The only reason the DOJ is running with it, is because they know they can get away with it and their bias jury will undoubtedly find him guilty. However, any appellate court will throw it out and if they don't, SCOTUS will. The left is going for broke!;they feel that absolutely NO ONE can stop them and it's fucking sad to see half the country cheering it on.

Basically he’s being indicted for pressuring various state, local and federal officials to overturn legitimate election results, even though they had no authority to do so and he had no evidence that the results were fraudulent. His actions conspired to defraud the people of their right to vote. His voter fraud claims were basically just a phony pretext for his own efforts at election fraud. He’s also being indicted for disrupting an official proceeding of Congress, the counting of the electoral votes due to his role in instigating the riot. I’m going to guess that numerous co-conspirators will be charged in the days and weeks ahead.
