You should look at the value of specific investments, not which country it's in. You also need to consider the exchange rate when investing internationally. That adds another layer of risk. Also, when the economy of the US craps out, so does the rest of the world. That will be true for some time to come.

Bottom line is that you should look at individual investments.

Not really the east was dominant for centuries with the Mongol empire and stuff. But when the east fell it reverberated and the west raised. So when the west falls the east will rise and when the east falls west will rise. The power just goes somewhere else.

Like Europe was super power for centuries, but because of world war 2 most Europe was left in ruins and most of the USA was left untouched. So the USA took power. The power just swifts around from one place to the other.

Over long periods of time things change. And yes, the US will lose it's economic dominance some day. But that is not going to happen over night unless something very drastic happens. The US has a tremendous economy, along with all the infrastructure, and a highly educated and skilled work force. It takes decades to build that, and it's not going to change over night.

Probably the number one mistake people make in investing is investing for reasons they don't really understand. When looking at an investment, if you can't give a clear reason why that investment is good, then you shouldn't be investing in it. Saying "I think it's going to go up" isn't nearly enough. Saying it's from XYZ country isn't nearly enough. Saying "Big name so-and-so said it's good" isn't nearly enough.

What you are suggesting is a real good way to lose money. Unless you just get lucky with a random coin toss - which doesn't qualify as investing.

You want to invest in a BRIC country? OK, which country and which investment? Why? You STILL need to evaluate individual investments and justify it. But you can, and should, do the same thing with domestic investments.
