If your talking about 4th generation aircraft like the F15, F16, F18, Dassault Rafale, Eurofighter Typhoon, Mig29, mig21, Su27 various Chinese fighters it's very deadly.
During the Vietnam war the US Airforce, Navy and Marine Corp had to develop special weapons and tactics due to the advanced Russian Air defenses in North Vietnam. Wild weasel missions. Then there was the demolition of the Israeli Airforce in the first few days of the Yom Kippur war with Russian SAM systems which prompted new tactics. This is why stealth aircraft were developed by the US military where the F117 nighthawks in the Gulf War went in and destroyed Iraqi Radar and Air defenses so that the F15s, F18s, F14s and F16s could operate in Iraqi Airspace without getting shot down by anti Air missle systems.
So basically it's very capable provided the opposing forces don't have Stealth Aircraft like the F22, F35 or F117. Its very effective provided opposing forces are not able to target and destroy its radar arrays or missile platforms.
This is why countries like India are trying to close the 42 year technology gap and either build or buy their own 5 generation stealth aircraft because the aircraft they are operating now are obsolete. They could buy from Russia or China but the war in Ukraine has shown these designs to be inferior so they will likely try to build something in partnership with the French aviation industry as they already bought Dassault Rafale instead of more Russian jets.
US already signed a deal with India to transfer of technology of its 404 E engine which will be used in India to make 5th Gen Jets
That engine is 45 years old and you indians are going to put it into an advanced 5th generation fighter lol. We used to use 2 of it in the orginial F18 hornet from the 80s and they aren't flying no more, now we just put them onto advanced trainers. Anything else from the 70s India is bringing back? Disco maybe lol
@drewtate LOL ! Its the same engine which is being used in Most American fighter jets, India is already have deals with France to make new Modern Engines
If required Thrust is getting by an engine then it does not count how old is that engine, only think is how reliable is it?
Also India can get anything from the US / Israel what ever India wants
@drewtate US wants to sell F-35 to India, similarly Russia wants to sell SU-57 to India but India don't want to buy these, Instead India is developing its own AMCA fighter jet
The US won't sell the F35 to India while it operates the S-400. They don't want the Russians getting technical information on the f35 which could result in a loss of stealth tech advantage for the next generation S-400.
India is basically looking to assemble a war plane from western components.
US President Biden is coming to India in September to attend G-20 Summit in Delhi, he will stay here for 4 days, many delas will be signed, US denied Turkey to give F-35 as they Imposed CASTA on Turkey as they bought Russian S-400 but its not the case with India, India and US has a different kind of Relationship, US didn't imposed CASTA on India despite buying S-400, India-US have a Military agreement that India can take US weapons on Lease too and user their Military bases and Vice-versa
@drewtate Also India-US had a nuclear deal in 2008 and US provides India Enrich Uranium for clean energy, India don't have uranium and India makes Nukes from Plutonium !
Turkey is part of NATO, india is not. If India want the F35 they will have to stop buying weapons from the Russians as its a conflict of intrest for the US to sell classified US tech to a country that also buys similar systems from a rivial or hostile nation. This is the US policy on selling the F35 to any country.
The F35B would be suitable for India's small aircraft carriers but the F35C would be just as good replacing the old Mig29s
US tried a lot to get India join Nato, 2 Months back US offered India to Join Nato ++ but India refused, India looking for more than 126 fighter jets for MMRCA deal and if India asks for F-35, The US congress will give approval !
Even US has asked India to test couple of Thermonuclear Bomb ( H-Bomb ) as soon as Possible !
Why would India join NATO? You aren't in the NATO region.
The US is looking for India to join in a Pacific Alliance to stand against China along with Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Britain, France.
India could buy any fighter jet it wants and it would be delivered in a week except the F35. The US can't risk Russia learning how to defeat the F35s stealth.
There won't be any future nuclear tests. India should avoid this.
@drewtate India don't have any intention to have a huge Nuclear arsenal, but Since China is increasing its nukes ( May go up to 1000 in Next 5 years ) so US hinted India to go for an another Test before signing CTBT !
India don't want to Buy F-35 because then US will have lots of control over IAF... also you know operating cost of 5th Gen fighter jets are 4 times higher than 4.5 Gen fighter jets, In a Full scale WAR you need Fighter Jets like F-15 EX, that Can carry 20 Air to Air Missile in a single sortie !
If India acquires 120 units of F-15 EX from US then 40 Aircrafts can shoot 800 Air to Air Missiles Simultaneously from 200 KMs Range and it will Annihilate China and Pakistan's fighter jets from 200 Kms away, However right Now India have 272 SU-30 MKI and it can fire Brahmos missile from 300 KM away or Scalp Missile ( Storm shadow missiles ) from Rafale or Mirage !
In a full scale air war if your enemy can see you long before you see them and can enter your territory and strike targets like your air defenses and aircraft on the ground they will establish air dominance and you will likely lose the ground war.
The F35 can carry up to 10 missiles, 12 on the upgraded ones but here's the thing. Operating as a stealth fighter with no external tanks it only carries 4 missiles (6 on the upgrade) because the other 6 or 8 along with external tanks means its not so stealthy but if two F35 were Operating as an air defence fighters or attackers with no external weapons or tanks and came across 8 Raffales or F15 Exs they could very easily shoot them all down without ever being defected. After the enemy airforce and air defences has been suppressed then you can load up it's external weapons and fuel tanks. One of the ways they are talking about the F35 to operate on the digital Battlefield is as a designated spotter, it might not even shoot itself at enemy aircraft or drop ordinance but instead paint the target for another aircraft loitering beyond visual range like an F15 or a B52 or a naval ship who will fire on aircraft or ground targets. US aircraft don't fire beyond visual range in case they hit a friendly aircraft or civilian airliner. If a 5th generation aircraft can do that it's worth the extra cost, maybe worth 4 Raffales.
Here's how effective a stealth aircraft can be. An F22 about 10 years ago intercepted an Iranian aircraft, was able to fly under the Iranian, check out his weapons load and neither the Iranian aircraft or ground based radar had a clue the F22 was there up until the F22 pilot told the Iranian pilot to go home.
@drewtate Inda's major enemy is China but here is a Cath, why? Its because of High Himalaya and Tibet ( 5000+ Meters in height ) Chinese fighter jets can't take off and cross Himalaya with full Payload, but India's have airbases just below the Himalaya and they can fly with full Payload !
Personally I believe India should get 100+ F-15EX with Air to Air missiles and India should talk with US for F-35B for Aircraft carries !
Can S-400 shoot down Brahmos? I guess it would be 50-50 but if 7-8 Brahmos fired simultaneously then S-400 can't defend the Target most likely !
The F35C is the carrier version, it's superior and less expensive than the VTOL F35B but I think a smaller carrier could operate more F35Bs than F35Cs. The Indian airforce might be better with a mix of 5th and 4.5 generation fighters. Maybe 4 F15xs for every 1 F35As. The F35 spots the targets beyond the F15s radar & the F15xs fire on them.
I hope during Biden visit to India in September India will finalized some good defense deals with USA, India needs at least 3000 more Howitzers to counter China and Pakistan simultaneously.
I believe US can help India build Nuclear Submarines and IAF should gets at least 250+ Modern Fighter jets !
Its America's National Interest to strengthen India to make Asia Stabilize, India is not a hostile country as we have 1.4 Billion people, So for US its safe to bet on India !
This is true but the F35 is a $1.3 trillion International endeavour started 20 years ago to build an effective stealth fighter that would give the US and its allies a technological edge and replacing a lot of aircraft such as the U. S. Air Force F-16s and A-10s, U. S. Navy F/A-18s, U. S. Marine Corps AV-8B Harriers and F/A-18s, and U. K. Harrier GR. 7s and Sea Harriers and aircraft from other nations. The F35 beat out the X32 in the joint strike fighter competition, a potentially very capable aircraft. There is no way the result of the JSF project and America's edge in stealth technology is going to be put at risk by selling to India while they operate Russian made S~400 so the Russians can use it to potentially work out how to make their S-400 capable of detecting the F35 and make the F35 just a very expensive that just a little bit better than an updated F16. The whole US and US ally air defence strategy depends on the F35.
@drewtate Hey, Pls switch on your TV... Or Google, Today India's Moon's craft safely landed on Moon's south Pole just 20 minutes ago ๐๐ค๐ค๐ค
Russian Failed but India did !!!
Today India became 1st Country to reach on Moon's South Pole, Your reactions ? โ
Thanks, Lots of love from India to USA ๐ค๐ค๐ค
@drewtate I had told you earlier that Indian's scientist / IT-Expert's calculation are very accurate, Russia's Luna-25 failed even when China was supporting them, Similarly Trust me, In Brahmos Missiles uses India's own Navigation system ( Not Russian ) That's why its Fast, Accurate and deadly and China Fears Brahmos missile.
Russian using Old and obsolete USSR eras Technology, that's why they failed
@drewtate Russian had powerful rockets and they sent their craft to Moon in just 4 days, India had to do lots of calculation as India used earth and Moon's gravitational forces, Its Moon craft first did many rounds of earth orbit then Moon's orbit and then it safely landed on Moon
Its just matter of ego else why there is hostility between US & Russia?
Geopolitics. Russia wants to maintain its spheres of influence in the traditional areas of the Russian Empire & USSR but former Russian States and Warsaw Pact members have turned more to the west and America. After Georgia was looking to join NATO in 2008 and Russia invaded.
In 2008 the US government to undermine the Russian oil/gas economy approached Assad to build an oil/gas through Syria linking Europe to Oman. Assad sided with Russia the Arab spring conviently started that month so Russia backed Assad. The rebels became ISIS, in Iraq the Iraqi government were getting very uppity about US presence in iraq and all of a sudden ISIS stopped fighting Assad and invaded Iraq. Traditional Russian Ally Gaddafi was taken out.
So cheaper oil/gas/energy prices during this period undermined the Russian economy which depended on oil/gas exports meaning they had less money for the Russian military and the modernisation of it.
At the same time America starting fraking and had the Saudis and Iraqis lower the price of oil.
Ukraine voted to join the EU & possibly NATO they drew a line in the sand, that was back in 2014 and invaded Ukraine and there was a peace deal.
So a few years later Ukraine starts talking about joining the EU and NATO again. Putin tries to intimidate Ukraine by a build up on the ukraine boarder, this doesn't succeed. Putin has the Russian military invade thinking the Ukrainians will back down but they don't. The Russian military finds themselves bogged down in a war theh are unprepared to fight and the Ukrainians are more than willing to fight as the US pours in weapons and equipment that's superior to what the Russians have and train the Ukrainian military. Putin has found himself in a trap that he can't get out of, he has to win but even if they win they will lose too much to make it worth it, if he pulls out he will be ousted from power and possibly executed. The Russia has been shown to be militarily weak.
The whole US strategy behind the Ukraine war is the break Russia militarily, politically and economically so that the dominant power in the region is the US and extend US influence and economic intrests into the black sea region, caspian sea and Central asia. Central asia is a big one. The want Central asia because it is rich in natural resources such as oil, gas, coal, minerals that are largely unexploited and the country is prime for infrastructure building and exportation of manufactured goods. US oil companies could in theory export oil/gas to Europe via the caspian and black sea and send trade back that way and do the same through Afghanistan through Pakistan into India. Central asia as you know has Iran to the west, Afghanistan to the south, China yo the east and Russia to the north.
@drewtate I " Read" what you wrote, but Sometimes I wonder ๐๐
Do People still fear God? OIL, GOLD, MINES, DIAMOND, ... OH GOD !
Why in the world are you talking about weapon systems on gag? Can't you think of another topic or subject that being that might be of more general interest? Weapons are nothing more than elaborate systems designed to kill people. Do you think that interests many people?
Okay, Just 2 Minutes ago India's Moon craft safely landed on South Pole of the Moon ๐๐ค

Seems like the S400 is superior to and less expensive than the U. S. Patriot.
It's very capable and is a real threat to modern strike aircraft.
