Why are some people selfish?

Let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, there was a frog and a scorpion. The scorpion says to the frog, "I need to cross this stream. Could I ride on your back to cross?"

The frog says "No way! If I let you on my back, you'll sting me and I'll die!"

The scorpion replies "I won't sting you. If I sting you, you'll sink into the stream and we'd both die."

The frog sees the logic in this and so he agrees to carry the scorpion across. But halfway there, the scorpion stabs the frog in the back. As the poison courses through his veins and the world starts to go dark, the frog simply asks "Why?"

The scorpion, sinking into the water answers just as simply, "It's in my nature."

You see, there isn't always logic in what we do. No rhyme or reason. No meaning to be found. We just do.

I’m generous up to a point

People have always been like that. Were you born yesterday?

Because it benefits them. They don't really care about others. Thankfully we have laws in place were ultimate things like killing and rape are prosecuted. But probably if it wasn't, then oh lord..

People also lack empathy, sympathy (in the least) as well as compassion for their fellow human being. It's hard for some people to put themselves in the other's shoes even if it's obvious it would be painful for the other party or cause distress. They are THAT single minded/narrow minded.

It's not a bad attitude lol. It's just what I have observed for being alive for so long. I was just trying to help. What is your problem lol. You asked a question and I gave you a straight answer as to why some people are like that!

You are rude asking me if I were born yesterday all I asked was why are people selfish not like I don't already know how people are.

I would advice for you not to be too sensitive. I'm like that sometimes too. I take people's words and twist it. I wasn't trying to be insulting. I was just giving you a harsh dose of reality. I was trying to HELP you. I've had plenty of rude awakenings and have learned the hard way how people can be. For what it's worth, I hope you DON'T have to learn it the way I learned it, but it's up to you.

Why would I ask why people are selfish if I didn't already know that people are?

Because our society makes us believe that's the right thing to be.
