Why do people like owning guns in the USA?

I was raised not to even want to use water guns.

For me, I want a handgun when I am of age primarily for self-defense. There are others who want gun(s) for that too, but it can also be for hunting and target practice. It is a sport like in Kentucky with it's own competitions. Guns in general can be very fun to shoot, yet expensive as well (it's apart of why a lot of republicans didn't like Obama).

I know if you aren't experienced with shooting guns, then seeing normal civilians who are can look concerning. However, just know that most people who were properly trained and especially if they were raised shooting guns do respect the power quite a lot. They will not be dumb or irresponsible with it.

Because once you have multiple people coming at you with baseball bats you're going to be real happy you have a handgun that can fire off a lot of rounds.

Not any one reason. There are many.

The biggest is for hunting. It is still a big tradition here. Millions head into the woods every Fall for turkey, goose, duck, and deer hunting.

Self Defense: you may laugh at this notion but it is a legitimate and valid concern. Crime is real. Rape is real. Muggings, kidnapping, human trafficking, and gangbangers are all real threats.

Sport: target and competition shooting is genuinely a fun hobby to have. The satisfying *PING* when your round hits the steel plate at 200 yards never gets old. Or just sending rounds down range at nothing in particular. Its just like putting the pedal to the floor in your car. Gives you a good rush.

Wildlife: its easy to forget but huge swaths of North America are still untamed. Bears, cougars, wolves, cyotes, snakes, gators, and many other large animals can and do kill people every year. Bears have been recorded entering people's houses. Locked doors are paper for any species of bear. And humans are fruit snacks.

Tyranny: people laugh at this notion as well. "The government has tanks and jets. What good is your AR-15 gonna be?" Those tanks and jets couldnt beat the Taliban or the Viet Cong. You look at Russia, Ukraine, China, Iran, North Korea, Iraq, Syria, Eithiopia, or any other place where civilians are being summarily executed and systematically exterminated and tell me that ordinary citizens have no business owning a gun. Isoroku Yamamoto of the Japanese Imperial Navy wasn't afraid of America's army in 1941, he was afraid of the population. Volodymyr Zelensky handed out AK-74s to anyone who wanted one. A Right that should have been exercised decades ago was handed out as a last resort when Russians marched on Kiev.

I hope you don't think I'm trying to belitle or berrade you with this answer. It's not my intention. I just provided a direct answer.

It is a tricky subject and people on both sides get passionate.

Because Americans in general are individualists not communist. Liberty is instilled in our culture... That means people don't turn to the government to answer their problems, people solve their own problems. Everyone is independent. Remember that entire Declarations of Independence things we wrote... Did you think we were just talking and didn't really mean it? Well we take that stuff deadly serious and we aim to keep it that way. That means we have a responsibility to defend it. As Isoroku Yamamoto noted, "You can not invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass". Some people understand America, others don't to their peril. That said there are always morons that think they can infiltrate our country and try to institute communism and strip America of liberty... At the end of the day, they will hang or face a firing squad. They have no one to blame but themselves.

It is a function of survival. The fabric of society is falling apart and crime is on the upswing and the police are being defunded. I got firearms a year ago and even though i resisted it I feel safer in my home.

It's a cultural thing. I own several firearms, because I live in a rural area and have to protect my crops. Plus, the occasional bear or snake.

Some People like to go hunting so they have guns for each type of animal that they want. Other people have them for their protection. I personally have a non lethal gun for my protection.
