Should we continue to blame colonialism?

I mean... a history of colonialism doesn't do anyone any favors, but at a certain point, the person who put you in a bad spot stops being responsible for the decisions you make. It's kind of like having an abusive parent. How many years away from that parent does someone need to have before we can acknowledge that the child is contributing to their own dysfunction?

The South African power grid collapsing is a prime example of this, to me. Apartheid was a truly awful thing, but that doesn't really excuse the fact that South Africa hasn't produced electrical engineers to maintain the power grid.

no i think we should blame the ongoing active oppression of certain countries by global corporations actively creating monopolies with the help of national military, enforced by national policies of the "first world countries" or in other words the "global top 1%".

Without de beers the cruelty and usury about diamonds wouldn't be a thing. Similar stuff exist for tropical wood, rare earths, certain agricultural products and a lot more.

NO. As a minority whose country was once occupied by the British, I am getting tired of everyone blaming white folks for everything, EVEN THOUGH current white folks had NOTHING to do with their previous generation's actions. Most countries now are liberated and it's time we put the blame on ourselves for not fixing our own problems.

As a British person, do I get to blame the fact we colonised other countries on the fact we were colonised beforehand by vikings and romans? They showed us how to do it so it’s their fault? Does all the blame land at modern Norwegian and Italian’s feet?

We are there blame everyone for their evils in the distant past or we blame no one. Selectively blaming one group while ignoring others who committed equal or even greater atrocities is ignorant at best and duplicitous at worst.
