Do you flush the empty toilet paper roll down the toilet?

So i need a sanity check. i've been living my entire life untill now assuming you shouldn't flush these cardboard cores down the toiled cause it has a high risk on flushing them. i live in EU

i just caught my flatmate flushing one of these down. upon being confronted, he said "ah shit i didn't know, in america we always do this".

is he right? do americans do this or is he lying again (wouldn't be the first time).

Just flush them.

My daughter's college roommate spent a couple weeks with us over the summer one year and did this exact thing, along with tampons. Clogged up my main pipe running out to the sceptic tank. Got it quoted for around 700 bucks to inspect and clean out. I sat her down and explained why what she I'd was wrong and what effect it had on my house. I gave her the option of either option a ( pay half the plumbers fee) or b ( I'll rent a snake and you help clean it out, which will be around 50 bucks for her share). We went with option b, and she has since stayed here with no ill effects on my plumbing.

Moral of the story. Some people are just ignorant of how things work. It's best to just explain it and try and fix any issues together so they learn.

Your flatmate is lazy and ignorant. Don't get me wrong you can flush them and get away with it and one will break down but eventually they will build up and back up the sewer system. In. y apartment block here were 6 girls and they kept blaming us three guys for blocking the the toilets by flushing stuff down there as we had recently moved in and they'd already been there 3 years and the land lord was pissec talkingabout evictionand keeping our deposit as well as billing us to fix it. Anyway they brought plumber's out to see what the problem was, they opened the connecting sewer and it was blocked completely by tampons and maxi pads and face wipes. We took pictures and videos and sent to the land lord. He apologised and that was the last we heard of it. Sour faces on the women though for about six months, didn't help that we kept singing a few bars from the bodyform commercial

I grew up in the United States and I’ve NEVER heard of flushing the cardboard down the toilet.


The whole point of toilet paper for toilets, as opposed to something like paper towers, is because toilet paper can be broken down easily.


You can stir cardboard in water for hours and that cardboard isn’t going to be breaking down any time soon.

I remove them later when The sapplings or grown seeds need to be repotted. At the time they fall apart though, so they already started. Especially As you need to keep the potting soil wet anyway in the seed phase.

Nope, they do not break down and they tend to clog up the pipes.
Our station is connected to a forced main for sewage, so we have 2 pumps in a collector tank that pump it into the sewer main. The inlets and the grinder were packed full of wipes and white mice aka tampons and burned out the motors.
It isn't a case of the sewer plant not being able to handle them as they have screens to catch all of that, but they also get clogged up.

He had water coming up out of the floor drain.
