Could We Be Living in a Simulation?

Simulation theory is a movement of thought popularized in the movie Matrix.
According to this theory, humanity and the universe live in a simulation created by an advanced computer. This simulation offers us a virtual reality that imitates the real world.

The simulation argument, or simulation theory as it is known, argues that reality is a simulation and that those in this simulation are not aware that it is a simulation. This concept is reminiscent of René Descartes' The Evil Demon but suggests a more futuristic simulated reality.

That’s always a possibility. It’s impossible to disprove.


Just like it’s impossible to disprove that we are all brains in a vat. Everything we sense and perceive are electrical signals interpreted by our brain.


Elon Musk is a big believer in simulation theory as well.


His reasoning is that we can already see video games becoming more and more realistic.


Given enough time, there will be video games that simulate reality so well, that they will be indistinguishable from reality.


Now, if we are all beings that exist in a simulation, that’s actually much more likely than being in base reality (the real world).


Because one can run countless simulations and simulated worlds, but there is only one real world — base reality.


What are the chances that our world is the one real world that’s not a simulation?


Simulation theory would also explain multiverses, with every universe having countless duplicate universes, each with small variations.


These would all be different simulations running at the same time.


The Mandala Effect can also be explained by simulation theory. What if some people are simply transferred from one simulation to another, or what if there are bugs in the simulation, or a consolidation of servers or something along those lines.


So yeah, I believe that simulation theory is always a possibility and it’s also impossible to disprove.
