Veterans have tons of programs to help. They get priority hiring, free housing if needed, houses with no down payment, veteran clinics, people are more generous towards them, etc. If they retired military, they still have a pension.

Homeless women and children are generally well cared for in most areas.

Most homeless veterans are homeless due to mental illness or drug addiction. When my brother was homeless, they got him and his family a place and said they'd pay full rent for a year.
