Why do some people move to another country and be racist there?

I live in Antalya, Turkey.

After Ukraian War a lot of Russians run away from the war and moved to this city. I withnessed A LOT of them being racist local people or workers here. I just dont understand their motivation to do that.

Like, if you love bein Russian THAT MUCH then go live in your country? How can you move somewhere else and be racist to local people?

I dont expect racists to act reasonable but this doesent make sense even for them?

Well, to be fair, a lot of locals in Antalya are scammers, so I'm not surprised that they aren't well liked.

THAT being said, when I was in Antalya, I got the impression that Russians aren't very well liked by the locals either, and this was before the war. One Turk passed us on his bike and started cursing at us, because he thought we were Russian.

So I can only guess that Russians don't like Turks, because Turks don't like them, despite the government's support for Russians. But in that case, why go there in the first place?

But honestly, having had the misfortune of being placed on multiple excursions with Russian tourists, I'm not at all surprised that Turkish people hate them. They're so snobby, arrogant, hateful and self-centered and think everything should revolve around them. I've rarely met a nice Russian person. There was a young Russian guy on one of our tours and aside from him and his girlfriend acting like snobby, entitled, arrogant know-it-alls, they were talking shit about America and American people the entire bus ride back. I get the sense that Russians overall are very hateful and arrogant people and have no shame about showing this.

I never understood why Russian tourists have such a bad reputation, but now I do. I used to want to visit Russia as I found the culture so fascinating, but now I don't.

I'd rather be scammed by a Turk, then have to spend a minute on a tour bus with a Russian.

Turkish people, especially in Antalya are far from perfect, but I think Russians are the BIGGER problem, because they think they're better then everyone else, and think everyone should kiss their asses they're on vacation.

I just realized that in the heat of my rant, I forgot to actually answer your question, but I think the reason is, they like the place, but consider themselves superior to the people. So basically, they want to take it over. And if you allow too many Russians to move to Antalya, that's exactly what will happened. They will populate the place, then claim it's Russian and say they are being oppressed and send tanks to take it. It's better you stop them before it's too late

That was great answer. I agree with everyting you said. Business owners in Antalya are really scammers and not only for turists but turkish people too, i hate them but normal people like me are used to live with Russians actually. I can say that a lot of my friends were sayin they love Russians and they would rather to live with them instead of Afghan or Syrian refugees until last year. But then more than 300.000 Russians moved here and they started to act like they own the city. Also they raised house prices and rents by giving a regular house 4x more money than its actual worth and they're like monsters at traffic.

I really hope government to do something to protect population of this city after elections, people are literaly screaming for help but current government doesn't care anything but the money in their own pocket 😔

I didn't know Turks get scammed too. Maybe they do, but are probably less likely and not as bad. Antalya was byfar the worst, but it was like that everywhere I went. I don't think there is one honest businessman in the entire country. I sensed that Central Asians and Arabs are less likely to get scammed.

The rest of what you said sounds pretty spot on, especially about them thinking they own the city. It's only a matter of time before the mafia sets up operations there.

That is the problem whit some countrys and people who don't understand the East European people, culture and environment.
In East Europe you live only in your comunity and the countrys are not having diversity in many way, all people are white, all people have the same religion, all people talk the same language.
Some people from such countrys, not just Russia, face a huge shok to hear another language, to see diferent people and diferent ideas that may be way more liberal then what we wish better for theyr nation.
People live in this nations only whit what they see at the time.
Rapers, Movies, News and FAKE News.
They have all the freedome to think what ever they want as long they don't hurt anybody. The emotional part is considerated moust of the time ussles as long is not harasment.

Its not a reason to be racist in other countries. They literaly call local people of Istanbul or Antalya "Churki" which is like a N-word that Russians use for Turkic people in Cacusia.

Imagine you're going to Italy and insult italians with racist words AT THEIR OWN COUNTRY? Is there any exuse to do that?

It has nothing to do with the war. I visited before the war and Russians were already disliked in Turkey and after having the misfortune of being placed on two excursions with Russians, I completely understand why.
