Hey GAG, I'm feeling more spiritual than religious lately. I live in an Armenian family, and my stepdad is super strict about rules. He acts like he knows everything, even more than Tim Allen. My family is pretty conservative, and they really don't like people who support Biden, especially Taylor Swift and Bill Gates.
My stepdad gets upset if my brother forgets to say "please," and it bothers me not because of the rule, but because he talks strangely, like old-timey people who believed in segregation. It's weird because he's Armenian.
I used to argue with my family about making fun of people, especially Asians, but they just said I take things too seriously. They think it's okay to make fun of everyone equally, but I don't agree. My mom and stepdad argue a lot. He thinks women shouldn't make rules, and he calls my brother a brat for no reason.
My stepdad likes to say he always tells the truth, but he lied about starting a business and other plans that never happened. He even caused problems between my mom and his brothers' partners. My parents are from Gen X, my brother is almost Gen Z, and I'm in my 20s, solidly Gen Z. My stepdad always gets involved in my brother's conversations, blaming him or our mom for issues with his cousins.
I used to think my stepdad was like the Donald Trump of Armenians, but now I think he's worse, like a modern-day George Wallace. My family has some wrong ideas about transgender people, calling it a "mental illness" and something only bad people can be. It's frustrating. The only good thing is that a few family members support Palestine and want peace. I don't see myself as religious anymore, and it's cringey when my mom talks about Christ being born in December or insists on praying during Christmas. Ugh.
