An example of this would be being in a relationship with an emotionally abusive or physically abusive person. There is the choice (sometimes hard to make) of leaving them. Life is hard and we know we will face difficulties and get hurt physically and emotionally. With friends it’s making sure they are friends and not just narcissistic arseholes. Family is harder, it can be hard for those with parents or siblings that hurt us. At school working life if we have people that hurt us, then we disassociate with them. With life though you sometimes need to face the hurt to get where you want to be, it can be walking on broken glass to get to other side of the road. With the other side of the road being where it’s better for you. An example would be college and a class full of arseholes putting up with them to get your qualification.

To me it means protecting yourself. I understand women that are choosy and do this. But I just women understood this works both ways. The women around my age are always in a big hurry to classify a relationship. Many are in a hurry to find a husband. Me being this age I'm past the child raising stage. So to me there's no hurry. And I have considerable assets so marriage can be very dangerous proposition now. If we'd married 30 years ago and spent the last 30 years. Building together she'd be entitled to half. And I get that. But she shouldn't be entitled to taking half of what I HAVE spent the last 30 years. Building by myself. And until that fact changes I'll take my time.
